Join us for the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu (WSC) Cybersecurity Workshop hosted from our Washington, DC location. This is a hands-on, practical workshop where you will put into practice those things you may have read or covered in a class. This is also a great way to keep your skills fresh if you're a veteran.
Every workshop addresses beginner and advanced topic material. Beginners are encouraged to watch and learn as much as possible even though you may not have a clue. Exposure to new tools and techniques by watching will advance your learning process a lot quicker than trying to learn on your own. You will get to ask questions and see how it's done in the real world. Advanced attendees are encouraged to share and help answer "noob" questions as much as possible so everyone can learn from them.
Lunch and prep is 11:00 - 12:00
Workshop is 12:00 - 5:00
Mobile applications are not as secure as you think as they contain mobile specific issues in addition to the common web and desktop applications. Bring your own device (BYOD) presents further risks to organizations' computing environment leading to data loss and internal compromises.
This workshop will concentrate on the Android platform. Dawn and James will show you how to perform mobile security testing, starting off by teaching you how to build a proper Android testing environment. Then into the fun stuff - installing and assessing applications for vulnerabilities.
We are excited to have Dawn Isabel and James Fitts from HP present this workshop. Dawn Isabel is currently a Mobile Security Consultant at HP ShadowLabs, where she tests iOS and Android applications and develops in-house tools for static and dynamic analysis of mobile apps. Prior to that, she designed and ran a penetration testing service at the University of Michigan, and developed Python automation for vulnerability management with Nessus. Dawn was team lead of the Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) at Ford Motor Company and developed global standards for incident response while there, as well as performing penetration tests of internal applications. As an experienced security analyst, Dawn has a background in incident response, penetration testing, and vulnerability management. Her work focuses on mobile and web application penetration testing and developing tools for test automation.
James Fitts has been in the security industry for over 7 years working in both the public and private sector. He currently works for Fortify mobile team testing Android and IOS application.
