Zelaine Fong is an Engineering Manager at Facebook. She manages Facebook’s distributed key value data store teams, HBase and ZippyDB. At this meetup, she will discuss the work her team is doing to improve the durability and reliability of HBase at Facebook. For background, take a look at the blog post at https://code.facebook.com/posts/321111638043166/hydrabase-the-evolution-of-hbase-facebook/.
Prior to Facebook, Zelaine managed the development team building Amazon Redshift, a database service targeted at analyzing big data in the cloud. Before that, she held various management roles at Ingres/Actian, Siebel, and Informix, where she managed teams doing database/server side development. Zelaine graduated from UC Berkeley. For trivia buffs, while at Berkeley, for her master’s project, she wrote the original query optimizer for Postgres, back when it was still a nascent research project, under the guidance of a professor who’s now at MIT. Zelaine is a native San Franciscan and has lived in the Bay Area her entire life. When she’s not working, during the baseball season, she’s cheering on her SF Giants.
