Tools & Techniques for Beginning Meditation
Meditation is an ancient practice offering techniques that create the conditions for balance and openness in the body, and lucidity in the mind. Adapted from Yoga, Zen & Tibetan buddhist traditions, this workshop offers tools that can be used everyday to begin or strengthen your meditation practice.
This workshop will cover what are commonly called "the preliminaries." Starting with how to cultivate a beginners' mind, you will learn the basics of generating nonattachment, compassion, and mindful attention. Through simple visualizations and mantras, we will practice calming cluttered thoughts, and the monkey-mind they generate. By observing mental habits, we examine the possibility of transforming them and the suffering they can create. With affirmation and cleansing breathwork, we will practice replacing negative thoughts with beneficial ones, planting the seeds of acceptance that can help us to live with confidence and a full self-embrace. Engaging in practice together, we will begin to uncover what awaits on the other side of a quiet mind.
$35/workshop or $90/series (paid in advance) ...continuing Oct 19 & Nov 16.
All levels welcome. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a blanket/mat/cushion to sit on and a journal to write down practices that work for you.
