Security+ Study Group

  • Oct 22, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Are you looking to take the Security +exam? Let's study together!

REMOTE ATTENDANCE ONLY REGISTER HERE: (We need your email to sent you the invitation to join the meeting. Please include email.) Click this > Security Plus Registration Here

Oct 22, 7 -930p     Topic: Vulnerability and Risk Assessment     Remote Attendance Only

Security + is an introductory level security certification offered by CompTIA. While this group is not in any way affiliated with CompTIA, we will be studying the Security + material to assist participants in self study to prepare to pass the certification test offered by CompTIA.

This study group will assume little to no networking or security IT knowledge. We will therefore move at a slower pace than other groups. This is to help ensure participants have an understanding of the material for a firm footing in IT security basics not only for the CompTIA Security + test knowledge base, but also just a generally good foundation. Everyone will be encouraged to share knowledge in areas they have a strong understanding in so we can all help each other learn.

Suggested study material: David L. Prowse CompTIA Security+ SY0-301 Authorized Cert Guide, Deluxe Edition (2nd Edition)

*This edition has come highly recommended by several instructors and includes a video CD for visual learners.

Topic: Physical Security and Authentication Models

Once registered, you’ll receive the meeting participation ID by email before the meetup. Expect to join 15-30 minutes prior to test your technical configurations.

Hi Lisa, can you send me an email to log into the meeting remotely as well? I am taking the Security plus exam at the end of this semester and need all the help I can get.
    Thanks,
    Marilyn

the email I was sent didn't say anything. NO link to join the session, no electronic book. How do I join the session?

Did you get the response back only from Meetup? I never received your registration. Please see prior comments for details.

Iris, I checked and my email shows your listing as having been sent an email last night. Check your spam folder perhaps? I am not sure why you did not see it. But, if you don't in the future, please contact me before we get started so I can address it. Thanks!

Jackie, I got disconnected from Go to Meeting twice so I finally gave up. Thanks for all your hard work!

There is a place to register right on the meet up wall that does not post your email to the public face. It says
Security Plus Registration Here" in purple. Click that link and register.

Prior chapters have already been covered up to chapter 10, which we are covering tonight. If you would like to join us this evening, register and make a comment to ask me to send you the digital book. The test topics are well covered in the book, but as of right now we will not be back tracking to recover prior chapters. As for meeting, I do not live in DC and we have other folks remote attending from New York and Chicago, as well as sometimes from other cities. Others in the DC area are welcome to meet in person if they desire. I strongly suggest doing the labs from the text book and having a partner if help is needed.

I have already registered and I didn't remember from last time if there was a fee for the digital copy. Since I don't have a textbook I am unable to do any labs. The only one I have is ISCT2 from school.

April, look at the attachments to the email I sent you. The free digital copy of the book is there. Download it (save it first so your virus scanner can scan it) and then you will have the text, labs, etc., to work with.

If you have not received your email invitation to the meeting, it means I do not have your email to send it too. After 6:30 pm, I will not be adding anyone else as I will be preparing for the group to start. Please click the "register here" link above in purple and send me your email address if you wish to be included.

I'm looking to attend remotely hopefully. I noticed todays topic but prior to todays, I didn't see any information of the notes/and answers to the previous sessions that were supposed to be presented on on the meetup. Have those previous sessions been discussed already if so where can the notes be found? Since BC/DR sessions the remaining ones I do not have. I also couldn't find notes to access control and telemcommunication & network security. Hoping I'm not asking to much.

Can we email you our emails? I don't want to post my email on the Internet due to web crawlers picking up email addresses for spam and phishing attacks.

    Hello,
I think this is a fabulous idea and would love to join the study group. Would it be possible for some people to meet in person for the study group? Perhaps at a library meeting room (free rooms at the library and they have free wifi). I'd be happy to make reservations at a library if the group wants to meet in person. You could still do remote simultaneously for those who can't come in person. I just tend to learn better in person.
