Visit New Hall of Ancient Egypt at Houston Museum of Natural Science

Explore the "primary civilization" of Ancient Egypt and its focus on the natural world, spirit, art, healing and the after life, through this art/artifact exhibit and resident mummy, Ankh Hap.

Trip to Houston, by car, takes three hours. We should leave enough to arrive for lunch at Hobbit Cafe or Baba Yega, then see the exhibit. Cost for entry to HMNS is $15 per person. We can also see local shops Lucia's Garden and Body, Mind, Spirit before our trip home to Austin.

Let's arrange carpools to make parking easier and share cost of gas. Should we meet earlier to pick up coffee at Anderson's or at original Kerbey Lane before we hit 290 to downtown Houston?

I had a wonderful time spending the day with Donna, Gisele and Melissa. Beautiful sisterhood, wonderful conversation, and fascinating exhibits at the museum and the peaceful meditative soul of Rothko Chapel. Thanks to Donna for organizing, and to all of you for a wonderful day. Much love!

I've been wanting to go to the Rothko Chapel for so long, but Spirit knew that yesterday was the day I needed to be there. An artistic representation, for me at this particular time, of traversing the unknown (in SO MANY ways)... a beautiful companion experience to my journey and dream pillow intent from our solstice celebration. I am so thankful we included it in our itinerary. it's an experience that will live with me for many moons.

What a memorable day. Inspiring exhibit, affective Rothko; replenishing conversations; great humor. I had a great time. Thank you, Toni, for driving.

Doesn't look like there is a ride available. Have fun!

Stephanie, we missed you. My next art car is a stationwagon. xo

Are there any available seat in a carpool? I'm not comfortable driving in Houston.

Noelle just said she's considering. Others on here have not been actively discussing but may still be going.

Carpooling? We have one woman looking to ride with you. Please feel free to arrange among yourselves. If you need help, simply ask, as wonderful Sarah has done.

Hey guys my ride fell through:( Anyone have an extra seat?

    June 18, 2013

    • Toni

Sarah, my little Fiesta is full right now - if that changes, I'll let you know. I hope someone else will be able to take another passenger though.

Wish I could join this trip. With hubby out of the hospital only a week I'm not comfortable being away for that long a time.
Be sure to visit my almamater, Glassell School of Art across from the Fine Arts Museum. Their sculpture garden is amazing and they might still have the student show on display.
    Enjoy your day in Houston!

You will be missed. Hope all is healing well at home. We'll have to make a trip down there and do art. ; )

Hello ladies and guests. Looking forward to Saturday's trip to the museum in Houston. I have an itinerary ready. Please email me via meetup and I'll send you a pdf with map links, addresses and information. If you are carpooling, you may want to confirm your plans in advance. See you on Saturday.

Hi Donna - I'm really looking forward to this! As I mentioned on the Facebook group, my little Fiesta is a bit squishy, but I can hold up to 3 passengers. :)

I think I can go... Will probably take own car as, if the Rothko Chapel is open (I've never had luck on my Houston trips), I must take time to go. But would love to join you at museum and lunch and Body, Mind, Spirit. Will check Rothko, hope it doesn't elude me, and will know more then. I'm rsvping yes but am more a maybe at this time. Thanks for instigating , Donna.

We will plan a trip for museums and galleries, plus a peek at the Divine in Houston. Believe it or not, much divinity began there for me! Since my 'art truck' doesn't have air conditioning, maybe we should rent multi-seater of some sort and plan a caravancerai.

I'd chip in for that. Much more fun and logistically convenient to make the trip that way ;) if it were a trip in Miami we'd be in a Hummer limo with the bass cranked up.

I SO wish I could go to this. I'm moving into my new apartment and will be unpacking and getting settled in so I will have to make it to the next outting. Have fun and post lots of pictures on meetup :)

I most definitely do. I would not miss out an adventure of this sort. We should chat!

This was poorly timed for a few of us but, as instigator, I had to pick a weekend and mine are based on care-giver schedules, among other fam stuff. I would love to hear what you, Morwen, have to say about the exhibit and only wish that we could attend together.

Will have two seats free if needed

I would like to go but I don't drive my car long distances but will pay gas for anyone with an empty seat. Thanks!

Pretty sure I won't be able to make this but have fun in my old home town!

P.S. I LOVE that Body, Mind, Spirit is still alive and kicking! That place was absolutely integral to putting me on the spiritual path that I am on today.

We'll miss you if you don't come along. We'll send your love to BMS and bring you a memento. xo

Does this mean that the book group is not meeting this day?

    May 18, 2013

    • Morwen L.

Darn! I won't be able to join as I am hosting the book group. *sad*

      May 18, 2013

    • Donna

Bring the group and talk about your book on the way. xo
