The Serpent Goddess

For many people, snakes are an object of fear - something to be avoided at all costs.  And mainstream religions have added to that fear by demonizing snakes (as in the stories about the Garden of Eden, and St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland).  But, long before these religious traditions existed - perhaps even more than 30,000 years ago, according to Marija Gimbutas and other scholars - the snake was the emblem of the Great Mother Goddess and represented Her qualities of life, fertility, wisdom, health and immortality.

Tonight, we'll look at some of the history surrounding this very ancient goddess, and we'll explore the significance of Snake medicine in shamanic work.  A shamanic drum journey will follow the discussion; we may choose to connect with Snake power animals or to the Serpent Goddess herself, or we may simply wish to work with our spirit guides on other issues.

Please dress comfortably, and feel free to bring drums, rattles or other instruments, along with a journal for recording any insights received on your journey.  Also feel free to bring an item to put on the altar during our circle.

Doors open at 7:00 pm and close at 7:30 pm, and ends at 10:00 pm. Please RSVP to ensure your space. Suggested donation of $10.00 per person to cover the space rental. Come join us for this powerful exploration!

We will be meeting in the Serena Room at Casa de Luz. Some backjacks, folding chairs, pillows and yoga blankets will be available. If possible, you might want to bring your own pillow or blanket to help make sure that you're comfy during the circle, especially if you plan to journey lying down on the floor. You might also want to bring a light wrap or sweater in case the AC is acting up! :) Several of us will be having dinner at 6 PM in Casa's restaurant, so feel free to join us for dinner before the circle!  Also, please note that it is OK to park in the City parking lots across the street - at least for now - even though "no parking signs" have been posted.  Casa has told us that we won't get towed.

I promise I'll make it one of these days. Alas, I'll be out of town for this one.

I'm so excited for this evening's circle. Snake has been my power animal in a very intense way for the last few years.
