Follow up to Rhythm of Life/Observing the Seasons, for Winter, offered in circle on January 3rd, and in preparation for the field expeditions and seasonal connection to natural world. Covered in this session, you will learn how to set up: (1) a garden observation book, with or without a backyard garden; (2) a Hortus siccus, a/k/a pressed plant library with observation notes; (3) an experiment diary for your explorations of plant materials for cooking, cleaning, cosmetics and health support. Find out how to assess the microclimate in your garden. Learn how to describe plants by their physical attributes, in botanical terms. Hear a brief history of Latinized binomial plant names. Learn how to describe which part of a plant to use for herbal remedies and why it is important to know these things, if you work with plants. Ideas of how to incorporate the sky story, seasons, and plant material into daily life during Winter.
