Wonderland Book Club Meet Joseph Mills

Sending Christmas Cards to Huck and Hamlet (poetry) by Joseph Mills

**Author Appearance**

Join us on the last Friday of every month from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at Center for Excellence, 3803-B Computer Drive, Suite 106, Raleigh, NC 27609.  It is just south of 440 off of Six Forks Road.

This month we welcome Joseph Mills from Winston-Salem, NC. Joseph Mills has degrees in literature from the University of Chicago (B.A.), the University of New Mexico (M.A.), and the University of California-Davis (Ph.D). A faculty member at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he holds the Susan Burress Wall Distinguished Professorship in the Humanities.  His published work includes poetry, fiction, drama, and criticism. In addition to his most recent collection which we’re discussing at Wonderland Book Club, he has published three volumes of poetry with Press 53: Angels, Thieves, and Winemakers,  Somewhere During the Spin Cycle and Love and Other Collisions. Joseph and his wife, Danielle Tarmey, are the authors of A Guide to North Carolina's Wineries (John F. Blair, Publisher).  The second edition was released in 2007. Find out more about Joseph at http://www.josephrobertmills.com/

Many of us read fiction like writers, so this group is especially attuned to aspiring writers who want to know more about the craft of writing. The books we chose are all available in paperback and can be found at the library in print or audio.

The Wonderland Book Club is sponsored by the North Carolina Writers' Network (NCWN) www.ncwriters.org

Joe Mills enchanted us today at Book Club with his warmth, honesty, and humor. He may not call himself a poet, but he's a writer who'll get folks to enjoy poetry again! Yay, Joe! Thanks so much to everyone who came--I love Wonderland Book Club--it's the favorite part of my month:)

Joe, thank you for being part of our book club today. Your book is great and it was so nice to be able to get to talk to you about your writing. Having access to writer's makes this such a great and unique experience.

Joseph Mills spoke easily and candidly, sprinkling his comments with genuine humor and a huge dose of fun. His presentation, in conjunction with observations and questions from the members of this book club, gave much food for thought, providing a diverse perspective on how to view poetry more openly. Once again, a great meeting!

Wonderful! I have never been that interested in poetry before, but after meeting the author, poetry has been put on my "to read" list.
