See you this Fri 11/18 for Book Club!

Hi Everyone,

We're meeting this Friday 11/18 at  Cameron Village Library (Room 202-A upstairs) 1930 Clark Ave, Raleigh, NC 27605. Room 202-A is upstairs by the windows from 10:15-noon.

We're discussing Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson and I've got a few discussion questions below.

This is our last book of 2011 and next month we'll be meeting Fri Dec 16th back at the Center for Excellence. It will be a Wonderland Book Club Open House/Used Wrapped Book Exchange and Selection for 2012 books. Hope you can come! I picked the Center for Excellence for the Dec meeting since we'll have more room and can start a little earlier.

Spoiler Warning: These book club discussion questions reveal important details about Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson. Finish the book before reading on.

  1. What do you think is the Major's "last stand?" What are different ways the title could be interpreted?
  2. Were you surprised by how strongly the Major's friends and club members responded to his relationship with Mrs. Ali? Do you see those kinds of prejudices in society?
  3. Do you think the Major's differences with his son were mostly a generational gap or a difference in personalities?
  4. What did the guns represent to the Major? How did his view of them change over the course of the novel?
  5. In what ways is the Major and Mrs. Ali's romance different because of their age? In what ways is falling in love the same?
