The soft-launch of the WooCommerce meet up.
Let's get together to discuss the meetup and what we can do with it in the new year.
The official first meetup will be in January in combination with the WordPress SFO meetup.

You too John. Thanks for coming and all the input. I feel it's sure to be a great meetup group with people like you involved!
That's to bad Greg, Brent -- if you want to have the first meeting to discuss ideas, let me know, I'm around.

Greg, would you be able to make it into town Monday?
0 · November 21, 2013
Sorry Brent - I'm pretty much not available all next week.
No problems Greg - understand it's hard with such short notice.
The good news is that the first "official" meetup will be in combination with the WP SFO meetup in January next year, so hopefully you can make it to that. :)
How about Monday night then. I'd say 21st Amendment Brewery but I think Brent may have had another place in mind.
Anytime works for me.
I'm good for Monday or Tuesday, name the place and time --
On my way to the area now. How about next Monday or Tuesday evening for the meetup?
It all sounds good to me -- Cheers
Zach, the WP SFO meetup organiser, got back to me and we're talking about doing a combined WP/WC SFO meetup in January.
He mentioned Dec is a terrible month for meetups as everyone has so many other things on, and I tend to agree with him.
So how about this as a new plan:
1. The first official WC meetup, covering "What's new in WC 2.1" and a "Beginner's Guide to WC" happens in January, in combination with the WP SFO group.
2. A few of us still get together in December for pizza + beer (provided) while Maria from WooThemes is in town. It will give us a chance to discuss logistics of the meetup and some interesting convo about WC.
John suggested a great little place called Orbit Room Cafe which I believe he's already contacted.

Sounds good to me.
If I was in town next week would that work? Otherwise after Thanksgiving it would be. Looking forward to meeting up again, bummed to miss the real 'official' meetup.
Probably would not come into the city for a meeting Fri. evening due to the traffic. Any other night is OK. What about asking Automattic if the meeting could be held at their location an hour or two before the regular SF WP meetup meeting? Ride on the coat tails of Automattic and SF WP, so to speak.

I like the idea of riding on the coat tails haha.
I'm hesitant to squeeze the regular meetup in on the same night because it would mean we'd either be meeting quite early or quite late. But perhaps we could run the first meet up as a combined WC/WP meet up to broaden the user base and then branch out on our own?
They might actually like the idea. Zach is always looking for ideas for discussion and maybe you could do a presentation on wooCommerce and announce the new meetup group at the sometime -- I'm wondering if we have a budget for the meetup or are we looking for space to be donated and do we need a place that allows us to offer beer and small bites of food.
The least WooThemes can do is be a sponsor of the meetup and pay for beer and pizza.
That's true Greg -- But I don't have any expectations -- only good conversation. But when we know, I can look at options. One thing I am thinking is that we should be near public transportation, weather it's bart or muni.

Haha I love that expectation!
Pizza & beer is assured. I'm not sure about budget for venue. Ideally free. If it's a few hundred, that's no problem, but I know how expensive event venues can get!

More to come...

Cool! I have come up with a list of 15 places, each of them a bit different than each other - let's see if we can narrow it down, then I will contact each of picks to see if we are a good fit with our size and budget. I will explain a little about each.

Brent, I sent an email since my note is over 1000 characters
Let me know what requirements are needed for the space and I will see what I can find -- Also if you need help with set up or break down let me know -- though hopefully we can find a space that we can just walk in and walk out --
Thanks John. General requirements will be at audio/visual. Though I have a small projector & screen we could use for a small enough crowd (15-20 people).
For the first meetup, it will likely be quite small - maybe 10-15 of us, so I'm thinking we could use a special screening room the coworking I'm in has available. That would make it very walk-in and walk-out.
Then we can wait to see how many join the group to know what size location we need for future events.
I like Greg's idea, do you have a contact at automatic to ask?
I am good for any night but I live in the city, Greg is right Friday could be very tough for folks coming from out of town.
I don't think it will be Friday night. I have the emails of the WP SFO organisers so will shoot them an email.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
