Introduction to Studio Lighting

  • Nov 21, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This 3 hour workshop is designed for newcomers to studio lighting. In this hands-on session we will introduce the basics of high-key and low-key lighting set-ups, three-point lighting with key light, fill light and effect light. Show how separate the subject from the background and discuss the techniques and concepts that a photographer needs to understand to create beautiful images with studio lighting.

We will take a completely bare, unlit studio and step-by-step build a full, multi-light Portraiture setup. We’ll use various modifiers, such as umbrellas, softboxes, beauty dishes and reflectors to explore a number of different lighting techniques.

Learn how to:

•  Setup your camera

•  Understand Strobe lighting

•  Light a subject using a single and multiple lights

•  Work with modifiers and backgrounds

•  Achieve multiple, varied lighting looks e.g. Rembrandt, split, loop and butterfly

We will also look at using smaller speedlights like the Nikon SB series or Canon EX series instead of traditional studio strobes.

We will work with a live model, shooting with the camera tethered to a computer and projector so the class can follow along with the demos.

Don't forget to bring your camera!

The workshop size is kept to 8 people to allow time for interaction and questions.
