Just thought I'd let everyone know that for some reason that I have yet to uncover, the very popular Bad Behavior plugin for WordPress that prevents spam bots from registering on your site and inserting comment spam is also blocking Googlebot and MSN's bot, which I believe is BING's bot.
Why is this important? Well, because if the plugin starts blocking the bots from crawling your site, then Google will not only stop crawling your site, it will completely drop your site from search.
How do I know this? I found out the hard way. After upgrading Bad Behvior sometime in October, I just thought I'd go on my merry way and still be blocking those nasty spam bots. Well, I Googled Netmix the other day and nada. Nothing. Netmix is only showing up for my social media accounts, when it was numero uno in search.
I checked my Google Webmaster Tools account, which showed that I had some serious issues. Thinking it was CloudFlare, I turned on/off the service, but that wasn't it. Some people were having issues with CloudFlare and Googlebot in 2011, but they seem to have since been resolved. That being said, it's wise to make sure you're still okay here if you're using CloudFlare. I'm using it, but after more testing, that was not the issue.
When I ran the FETCH domain service in GWT, I got an error with the header stating something about "Bad Behavior." I was thinking..."Bad behavior, huh?" Then I realized that Bad Behavior was turned on. I went in, turned it off and boom, the FETCH service connected and I was able to resubmit Netmix.
Who knows how long this ill take to get re-listed. Watching and waiting.
Hope that helps some of you using WordPress and Bad Behavior.
As an alternative, I'm using Wordfence, which is a much more advanced service. It comes with a cost, but it's certainly worth it. I'm also using CloudFlare, so that should certainly protect me as well.
