Coffee & WordPress

Our first Meetup will be very informal. Let's grab some coffee in town, get to know each other & brainstorm ideas for discussion topics and future events. Come hangout- meet other people who love WordPress & caffeinate yourself.

Hey everybody- It would have been great if more people could have made it, but it was still an excellent first meetup! Had highly interesting dialogue with Michael Lenahan and Xavier Price comparing Drupal and WordPress CMSs, and making future plans to hopefully connect with local schools and Universities that are teaching WordPress as part of their curriculum.

I do just want to say that I appreciate that everyone who could not make it did take the time to let me know in advance; thank you. Additionally, Chris I do hope that you feel better quickly- and perhaps we can schedule a Google Hangout sometime soon.

    All the best!

Glad to hear that the Kurpfälzer Social Media Treffen went well, Valentinus! I have heard of the Heidelberg Web Enthusiasts meetup and it sounds very interesting. I personally work primarily with WordPress, and as it powers nearly 20% of the Internet, I believe that there is a large community of people here in Heidelberg / Mannheim that would like to learn more about it. I will maintain this Meetup's focus to be on WordPress, but I'll be extra careful not to overlap any scheduled events with other groups in the future. Web development is a very big industry, so I see this Meetup group as being just one branch of it.

I can't join because there is at the same time the Kurpfälzer Social Media Treffen #ksmt. Sorry. It is a meeting for bloggers, and people using social networks.

Thanks for all of your feedback- I had completely forgotten about the Heidelberg Christmas Market, that would have been a disaster lol!

Let's meet instead at Marstall Cafe ( ) at 18:30pm. Hopefully this way everyone can make it.

This will be fun! I just got back from WordCamp London over the past weekend, and have some incredible stories to tell.

Uniplatz is not good because there is the Christmasmarket. Very crowded at this time. How about Café Emma around 10m away from Uniplatz (
    Or the Marstall Café (

Hey everyone! I just officially set the location to Uniplatz for this meetup. This seems to be a fairly big place, so we need a specific point (like next to a sign, or bus stop or something) so that we can find each other. It seems like Arden knows the place best, so what do you think? Also, since it is getting dark so much earlier- what about meeting earlier, like 4:30 or 5:00? I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you in person!

Okay- I'm finally back on a somewhat normal schedule ( or as normal as is possible with two kids in diapers ). For a first meeting, as Valentinus suggested, internet probably isn't a big deal; really it's more for us to get to know each other and discuss our interests. As such, Uniplatz works fine for me. What do you think?

    Hi everyone,
Congratulations to Mike - new father !!
as far as I know, almost every coffee shop or pub in the city centre has Internet connection, so if you are planning to bring you notebook with you, WLAN would be of good help ;) If not, we can still go inside the Triplex Mensa, in the "International Caffee", a shop (book shop+library+PCroom) for foreign students where you can surf the internet as well. Guests are also wellcome there. So, the first meeting will be today in one month, right? I'm looking forward to it. Take care.

Is it necessary to have WLAN for the first meetup?

Sorry for the slow response Arden- my baby girl was just born on Wednesday! I wish you a warm welcome and thanks for the recommendation. Any idea if there is internet access in the area, or perhaps a nearby coffee shop that has?

Hi, I am not a publisher, not even a (web)designer, still I hope to meet others in this group and exchange ideas, etc... "Uniplatz" (in front of the University Museum) would be a good place to meet, quite central & easy to reach and might be preferable for a start. looking forward to it. ;) best wishes, arden

Let's open up the floor to ideas for a location. I'm not super familiar with the Heidelberg area, so any input is helpful.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
