This month's meetup is targeted at WordPress developers and advanced users that are creating WordPress websites.
WordPress users that aren't creating WordPress websites are encouraged to attend next month's users meetup instead.
6.30pm - 7pm - Free Pizza & Socialising
Pizza generously provided by Envato.
7pm - 7.10pm - Housekeeping, Agenda & WordPress News
7.10pm - 7.40pm: Elliot Condon - The Advanced Custom Fields Story
Elliot Condon will discuss his Advanced Custom Fields plugin. His free plugin has had almost 850,000 downloads, and he'll explain his journey to making it an income-earning venture by selling Premium addons.
If you're interested in creating a premium plugin (or turning your existing plugin into an income-generating exercise), this talk is for you!
7.45pm - 7.50pm: Anthony Cole - Development Workflows, a narrative
Everyone has a different workflow they use, but Anthony is going to share his development workflow as a hat-tip to "My Web Development Workflow" at WordCamp Melbourne by Bronson Quick because he realised that his was, well, completely different and sharing is caring.
7.50pm - 8.30pm: Open Discussion / Q&A
8:30pm - Wrap up
We'll then head to the nearby Post Office Hotel for drinks.
How do I get to this event?
In style!
Uber have generously offered free transport (up to $75) to or from Inspire9 between 4pm and 11pm on 8 May 2013.
See this page for full details and instructions.
Can anyone with a good understanding of wp_rewrite, answer a quick question for me. PM or Twitter @etherealtim
As an aside, would anyone be interested in having a simple dev issue Q&A forum for this meetup group? I know there's a billion alternatives, but sometimes its easier to relate your questions to people you know. We have a good range of experience and people might be more inclined to contribute within the context of helping out the MelbWP community than they would otherwise.

Had a great time seeing behind the scenes of ACF, also meeting other developers.
May 9
Great to learn more about the ACF story and get some insight into turning an open source plugin into something that is sustainable for a developer. Some good workflow tips from Anthony too
May 9
Great insights from Elliot. It's inspiring to see someone who recognises the importance of, and places such focus on, customer experience!

Hi All
I am a tafe student doing my wordpress assignment, and need some help. I am using the recent post slider, to post the images and part of the articles in the header, for my theme. For some reason I have this working under my virtualbox test unit, but when I deploy up on the web, the images do not show in the post. Anyone able to give me some guidance, would be appreciated. Or recomend another plugin that just shows the first five posts with there images on a slider.

I would love someone to do a big roundup of performance tips / practices / experiences / recommendations!
I'm talking caching, minification (lists of plugins which can tolerate being minified!), plugin replacement options (you know, when its cheaper to run a one-liner in functions.php), moving work over to .htaccess where possible (vs spam / bots), experiences with CDNs and serving media from subdomains, plugin profiling / performance testing, server tweaks where available (or preferred server config: cloud linux on cpanel, suphp vs fastcgi)... the list goes on!
What a wishlist! Looking fwd to Gary's talk at wordcamp - maybe there's an opportunity for a recap?

Hope to be able to advance my knowledge of Wordpress to reduce time and frustration building or changing my sites and to more quickly correct problems or find people to turn to for help. Need to spend more time one blogging and less on technical issues. Not able to attend next 3 meetups but may be lucky and get a late ticket for Wordcamp. Live 3-4 hours from Melbourne so won't be easy getting to meetups.
