WordChicks

Google Plus 101 for Bloggers

Google’s social media platform, Google+, is the world’s second largest social media network. Think of it as a combination of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.

Google+ allows you to engage with potential readers for your WordPress blog, build quality connections, share and discover content and much more. Plus, it also has the power to help your blog get more web traffic from Google.

If you’re not yet tapping into the benefits, now is the perfect time for Australian bloggers to get active on Google+.

During this presentation, Melinda Samson will show you tips and tricks for accelerating your Google+ success including:

-  The different ways that Google+ can increase traffic to your blog

-  How to set up a professional Google+ profile

-  Integrating Google+ with your WordPress blog and setting up Google Authorship

-  The features of an engaging Google+ post

-  The difference between personal profiles and brand pages

-  How to find people and communities to connect with

About WordChicks

-------------------------------------------------------------------

WordChicks is a chapter of the Melbourne WordPress User Group that is specifically created for, run by, and tutored by women.

We do this not for any reasons of exclusivity but to provide an inviting place where women can gain confidence in their web production, development, blogging and site management skills, and in sharing those skills with the wider group.

We do not currently restrict entry to the meetup by gender, but we simply ask that all those who attend, male and female alike respect our mandate that this group exists to inspire women to more confidence in contributing both to this group, and the wider WordPress project as a whole.

Oh another thing, I did some more research into the moving image on the background of the gplus header, and it can be a gif so that will make it easy to implement.

During the session it was asked (by Jane I think) how big an image shared on Google+ should be for optimal viewing ie that fills the screen. Here is some info https://plus.google.com/+GplusExpertise/posts/3HF6cHn5oQ1

And here is the form where you can sign up to be amoung the first to be notified when our "Get into Google+" video training program is launched (plus a chance to win 1 of 3 copies)

    Hi Dee,

I noticed Be Responsive Meetup in August on was on the topic of 'CSS naming conventions'. I couldn't make that one in the end, but I thought it could be a good topic for WordChicks perhaps, or even WordPress Melbourne.

    Just a suggestion.

    Cheers, Jane

Hey Lauren, we've updated the content, the meetup's about Google + and your site. Mel is going to take you through how there's real benefit in G+ for websites. I'm sorry I won't be there, I'd love to hear this one!
