October WordPress Developer Meetup

To make it up to those missing WordCamp San Francisco, we have two great and geeky talks lined up for this month's developer meetup.

Stephen makes his WordPress Melbourne debut to talk about the customiser. Stephen has contributed to bbPress for years and is a member of the WordPress polyglot group.

Jack returns to speak plugins, specifically how to write unit tests for your plugins. Keep your users happy by catching bugs before your code goes into the wild.

After the talks, we'll head to a nearby pub for the more social end of the evening.

Agenda

6:30 Arrive, mingle, chit chat, pizza scoffing (thank you envato)

7:00 News, views and quick updates

7:10 Stephen Edgar - the customiser
7.40 Jack Barker - Unit testing for plugins

8:15 Pack up and head for the pub

8:30 Drink stuff

Okay people, that's a wrap... see you there?

Can't wait!! Dee, Aaron, Anthony and Pete, Amelia, Chris and Warren

A side note for everyone, there was a new SSL vulnerability that was highlighted last week, If you haven't heard of it, its called the Poodle Bug, to check that your current browser is safe use this checker, https://zmap.io/sslv3/browsers.html and here is an article that offers some ways to fix it on your servers, http://blog.vpetkov.net/2014/10/14/openssl-ssl-3-0-poodle-vulnerability/ Basically their is a vulnerability in version 3 of ssl, and a man in the middle attack, can force visitors to roll back and use this version (SSLv3.0). circumventing TLS. (An extra note, if you change it so that the lowest version people can use is the provenly secure TLS 1.0. then as a result, an Internet Explorer browser whose version is 6.0 or older will not be able to access websites hosted on your servers. And once and for all we get rid of this browser. :p )
