Arrive from 6:30pm for a 6:45pm start.
This month's meetup is targeted at WordPress beginner users.
WordPress developers and advanced users are encouraged to attend next month's meetup (March) instead.
The agenda is as follows:
How to Add Content to your Website - for WordPress Beginners (Andrew Davis)
Andrew will run an introductory presentation showing business users (i.e. non-techies) how to add content - such as text, images, videos and maps - to WordPress-based websites.
About Andrew
Andrew's company Boxless provides IT consulting and training on WordPress, and on "cloud" services such as Google Apps and Salesforce.com.
How To Write For An Online Audience - Vikki Maver
This talk will help business owners learn how to create online content that gets results.
With so much emphasis on web design, writing effective content is often overlooked.
Vikki will explain why specialist writing techniques are needed for the web – and show you how to make your website message clear and compelling.
About Vikki
Since 2008, Vikki has been training other professionals on how to improve their writing at work through her business Refresh Marketing. Vikki finds helping people improve their writing skills extremely rewarding and loves meeting interesting people along the way.
Free Pizza
Free pizza (provided by Envato).
WordPress Beginners' Q&A (Time Permitting)
Bring along your question (on a WordPress beginners topic), and we'll hopefully be giving attendees an opportunity to ask their question to the group.
Please note that this Q&A session will only be run if we have time after the two presentations.
Open Discussion and Socialising
At the nearby Post Office Hotel in Richmond.
A great evening, as always. For those interested in the finer details of WordCamp Melbourne 2013 - here's the website http://2013.melbourne.wordcamp....
- and if you were also keen to have some say on what we put in the User stream, here's the link to the survey I was talking about. http://wcmelb.wufoo.com/forms/w...![]()

Good to see so many new faces at last nights meetup. For anyone that missed the url, you can find my easy to follow WordPress manual at http://easywpguide.com
. You can read the guide online or download it in PDF or Word doc format. It's also available in ePub & Mobipocket eBook format if you have a mobile device such as an iPad, iPhone or another tablet device.
Enjoy!

Thought the second presentation was not only informative, but entertaining. A very worth while refresher for me. However, I probably could have skipped the initial presentation - a bit too basic for me.

The WP designers and developers have provided for people like me who want different themes from different vendors for different content types on 1 site as a basic necessity of design life.
Is that right?

May be an advanced topic; but has anyone got any experience writing unit tests for their wp plugins/themes? I'd like to stop accidentally breaking things!
Might be a good topic for someone to talk on (hint hint).

Not only am I an absolute beginner, but a computer illiterate, when it comes to terminology. Is it pitched in such a way that a septuagenarian grandmother can understand? And should I bring a computer? (My phone is a dumb phone. lol)
Am I able to park right near the building entrance, and is the building 'accessible'? I am not able to walk far, and have great difficulty with stairs.
Despite those difficulties, I do not want to pass up this opportunity of finally learning how to do Wordpress.
