Forgive me for adding to the number of emails that you are all likely getting from the group, but just a note that while fostering community and conversation is the goal of the group, we would like to keep this comment wall as related specifically to upcoming and past events.

While the group's website would be great for holding longer form discussion or sharing our individually projects, the value for us with Meetup also lies in the fact that it is only one place that people need to go to get group information, without having to keep up with another channel of communication.

That said, please limit discussion here as it actively relates to the events and group as a whole. Thanks!

fine but get more space, a bigger location or charge so it leaves space for those who need to come. Success is great, but the need for seats means finding bigger local or charging to cut down the ones who do not need your group as much!

Thanks, Jean, for having the patience to answer questions I've accumulated for a year of working with WP. Thanks to Gary, your suggestions are being implemented as soon as I got home. Thanks to all the sponsors and organizers for making this Meetup/Round Table possible. I'd like to invite all of you to visit http://sunisthefuture.net to give me suggestions for improving this site and share the site with others so we can spread more sunshine throughout the planet Earth.

Another great session....thanks to the presenters. I would like to suggest that questions remain pertinent to the topic and to the group. One suggestion for future meetups: more involved conversations should be taken off-line during the networking breaks (re: Disney/Solar discussion), as they do not pertain to the topic or to the group.

    Fabulous

  • Danise R.

I tried out the online stream and it was great not to have to make the one hour drive to the location. Only suggestion for next time is that the speaker repeat the question before answering since it was not audible in most cases. Great information from Dave and John. Thanks very much! And thanks, Gary, for making the online viewing option available. Good stuff. :)

Just changed my reservation for the session tomorrow. Since I live in Lakeland, I want to try watching at home. Meanwhile, I still have not created my first site yet and would like to hire someone to sit down with me for an hour and get me started as I don't have time to filter through all the youtube videos to learn. Anyone available that I could pay to come to my home please let me know. Thanks.

Re: My earlier post ...I was busy giving directions on the road as I was posting. I see I made a few mistakes, including leaving out the other suggestion, which was Parks & Recreation ... they offer lots of different venues!

I have 2 suggestions for places work ample space ... The Sleeping Moon ... A truly lovely place located in Winter Park on Aloma near Semoran Blvd. Its really a cozey cafe mewting type pkace. I'll call to get pricing n availability.

    July 10, 2012

  • Billy

I'm all for finding a larger space. It's a shame that 20 or so people miss out every meeting. Ideally we would need a space to fit 100 people or so. Anyone have ideas on where?
Another thing we could do is consider Skype for those that are unable to make it or are stuck on the waiting list.
I am going to check on the recreation center where I live (near Lake Nona) and see what the capacity is for the room & follow up. It's $75.00 to rent. That's like a buck a person.

    July 10, 2012

  • Carol G.

I like options 2 & 3. Thank you Judy these are great ideas. What about sponsors? Gary did you say that the org may help ?

    July 10, 2012

  • Judy

-There were 3 options for serving more people.
-Profit and covering cost are different animals? There are always those that will not donate even when it is $3.00.
-So you would rather take you chances, right?

    July 10, 2012

  • Carol G.

I disagree with a larger donation of (15.00 to 20.00). Small business owners wanting to learn would not be able to attend.

    July 10, 2012

  • Katy

some people do not have "smart phones" & charging more for the Meetup makes this group more of a "for profit" thing....they are trying to keep the costs low & that's what I love about it. RSVPing the night before is not a huge thing to ask. People generally know the night before (although things do come up) if they are going to attend. A final RSVP at 9 am Fri night would be a good thing. :) I've been on the wait list...and it sucks. ;) Accountability is a good thing in this day & age. ;)

    July 10, 2012

  • Judy

Get a bigger room, get a larger donation (15.00 to 20.00) to cover the cost, and grow. What you've got is what everyone wants. Keep the same place and group size but do the presentation 2 times on the same day. Record the entire session and post it on You Tube (unpublished) so only those that signed up on the wait list would get the link.

    Thanks for listening.
    Judy

True Katy, there are all sorts of last minute reasons that are valid. Such as car won't start or broke down, missed the bus, called into work last minute, woke up sick, having a baby. I think letting someone know as opposed to a no show. Repeated no shows need to be addressed.

    July 10, 2012

  • Carol G.

There's a Meetup App for smart phones.
True if you live far no way can you be there in 30-min
I didn't know about the auto move-up from the waiting list.

    July 10, 2012

  • Katy

I think people should know the night before if they are going to attend or not. We should set a time to double check your RSVP the night before...like say 9 PM on Fri night? Send an email to the attendees around 8 PM to finalize their RSVP for the next day. Waiting 30 minutes before the meeting to change your RSVP does nobody any good. That is not enough time for a wait-lister to be notified. What do you guys think about this idea?

    July 10, 2012

  • JP

+1 @ Chuck. 30 min before last meetup I was moved from the wait-list to registered, but it was not enough time to attend. I did not even see it in time to cancel. :-\

    July 10, 2012

  • Chuck

One thing to remember is that when one person changes their RSVP to no, it moves someone else from the wait list to yes. So if its 30 minutes before the meetup and someone switches to no, the wait list person may not see it in time to attend. We have to make sure we don't penalize those people for not showing when they may not have been given proper notice.

    1 · July 10, 2012

  • Carol G.

I think accountability is a good thing.
I've seen the list open up last minute.
    Last minute things come up.

Geeks should have a smart phone to let the group know.

We should keep checking the waiting list.

I don't think there's an excuse for a no show without deleting the RSVP on the Meet-Up.

I agree with a register sheet to compare with the Meet-up RSVP.
I don't mind helping if needed.

But who will police this, telling people they can't come?

    July 10, 2012

  • David L.

I know that there should be no excuse for it, but since we've mentioned this before, it might be a good idea to set up a "second-chance" thing for no-shows, just for one free chance, or have them go right to the waiting list if possible.

    July 10, 2012

  • David L.

Last week's meetup also went the same day. Unfortunately, I did see a few more empty chairs there, compared to last time. If you do find that you cannot attend, please free your spot up for someone else ASAP.

    July 10, 2012

  • Jean P.

Everything booked that quickly? I hope spots weren't filled by people who RSVP'd last time and didn't show.

    July 10, 2012

  • Nancy

WOW! I just got the email from Gary TODAY. He sent it at 3:11 pm it's now 11 pm. I jumped to the website to sign up for the next class and I CAN"T BELIEVE ~ it's FULL!!!??? THAT FAST???!!! Aaaaaaaaawwww :( aaaww :( mmmm :(

    July 9, 2012
