Event Calendar: Show important dates, past and upcoming events. Booking Calendar: Reserve services, rooms, apartments, etc. Editorial Calendar: Schedule posts to be published by dragging and dropping them onto the desired days in an interactive backend calendar.

Premium WordPress calendar plugins offer extra features and dedicated support for a price.

Free plugins offer basic features and support, and will probably involve some searching & evaluation on your part; the subject of this month's meetup.

John, Thanks for the Google Calendar info. As for the responsive javascript info I would think all you have to do is insert the code in the head section of your index page where the other .css info is inserted. Does that sound correct?

I found an interesting calendar plugin "Google Calendar Events" http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-calendar-events/
It looks like it takes the Google calendar data, and makes a better presentation. Also it merges multiple calendars. However, it is a pre-1.0 version which could have issues, YMMV.

Also I looked at the Starbucks website for how it does responsive web design. It uses some javascript to look at the window size, and set the menu to use a different CSS class. Not sure how to do that in WordPress. It probably requires a custom theme.

I want to come and learn more from all of you.

After reviewing many booking applications I chose to use the free version of http://www.zingiri.com/bookings/.

Here is my Google Calendar page with the booking tool at the bottom:
    http://www.svvideoworks.com/calendar/
    - If I used the paid version I could have it integrate with Google Calendar.

There are some OK reviews of calendar plugins:

Yes, one of the items on my Joomla/WordPress checklist is events calendar, so I hope someone can demonstrate popular WordPress event managers.

My questions include: what's involved in changing the calendar's default theme; can event sites be saved separately and reused; do features include event registration; what are the options for repeat events.

Hi Jean, are you the same Jean Bedord who wrote the book, "I've Got a Domain Name--Now What???: A Practical Guide to Building a Website and Web Presence." I met you at PATCA once and I'm still a member there.

Pamela, I'm in Port Douglas, Australia, right now for Wednesday's solar eclipse. We'll be back in the states next week, and then I'll post a complete description of December's presentation. Looking forward to meeting you next month. -Gary
