North Sydney Meetup - Security

We've had a lot of requests for best practices and techniques for securing and locking down a WordPress site and considering the big botnet attack in April it's time to put the cat out, batten down the hatches, dig the moat and get that hot oil ready.

It's security time...  Oohrah!

This is important so we're repeating the central talks for all those who can only make the North meetup.

What we usually do:

As always we'll aim to start at

6:30pm Welcome and Introductions

6:45pm A presentation or workshop

7:15pm A presentation or workshop

8:00pm Open conversations and questions
-- if your issues aren't covered above it's still a great time to come and ask any questions you want!

"But now I have this feeling of Paranoia.... -;)"

Which increases with every new security plugin you install :-P

Thanks Wil, appreciated now understanding the wp_cron issues for backup timing as well as learning some new security tricks I'd not discovered myself. Agree with Cath that .htaccess is a potential minefield for sequencing your commands correctly as I too have had to "correct" it after discovering my pages go "walkabout". Thanks.

Yeah .htaccess can be a fiddly beast. There's so much you can do with it and that leads to potential conflict. I may cover this in a future talk.
