WordPress Meetup

2013 should be an exciting year for WordPress and for meetups! This year we are hoping to build out our community and WordPress knowledge from start (what is WordPress, how to install & use it) to finish (technical stuff and general web essentials). It would be brilliant if you are able to make the whole series of meetups to share your knowledge and learn new stuff.

December 2012 saw the release of WordPress 3.5 and the new Twenty Twelve theme, so there should be some new things to chat about in this intro session, even if you're a WP old-timer!

As always we'll aim to start at

6:30pm Welcome and Introductions

6:45pm Introduction to WordPress (installation, posts, pages etc)

7:15pm What's new in WordPress 3.5 & a look at Twenty Twelve

7:45pm Break (Food/Drinks)

8:00pm Open conversations and questions
-- if your issues aren't covered above it's still a great time to come and ask any questions you want!

8:30pm Pub time (We always try and get out at this time and continue conversations at the pub)

The organisers were great, good information and casual and relaxed. One of the things I didn't like was the seating arrangements. Anyone who was in the inner part of the seating next to the table seems to speak up and was heard a lot more than anyone surrounding the table. It seemed very biased toward some of the audience and not others. If the seating arrangements were changed to maybe rows of seating or even a circle of seats, I think the meeting would have gone much better with much more people contributing. Also I think a moderator given various people changes to speak up who didn't would have been helpful.

Good fun, good communication. The smaller groups work better...

My sincere apologies. I couldn't make it because of sudden work commitments and I forgot my mobile phone at home and couldn't let you know in time. Just got home. Sorry. Not a good introduction, I realise. Elizabeth Ban

Anyone used backupbuddy for a quick chat about it?

The above meetup is a skeleton idea and may change. We're looking at a programme of talks for 2013 just now.

@marina - Security of WordPress will most likely be a future talk. Thanks.

Sounds good Ben. Would nginx be on the cards?
