July Meetup

Talk Description:
How can you build a WordPress site that loads in less than a second, and why does it matter?

At Google, a 500 millisecond delay (just 0.5 seconds) resulted in a 20% decrease in search traffic. 74% of mobile web users will leave a site if it takes longer than 5 seconds to load. Meanwhile, web-enabled devices and user bandwidth are getting more varied and less predictable.
In this talk, Chris Ferdinandi shares tips and techniques that will dramatically increase your site performance.

Speaker:
Chris Ferdinandi is a web designer and front-end developer in Franklin, MA.
Chris is responsible for learning innovation and technology at EMC Corporation, a Fortune 200 tech firm. He's also the web developer for PAWS New England, a fantastic animal rescue organization. He's a beach bum from Rhode Island, and currently lives south of Boston with his wife, two dogs, and one dog-like cat.

I was looking for a meetup to go to tonight, but found this one too late. I joined and hope it is the right decision.

very informative - technically advanced for where I am, but I still very useful to know and easy to understand. Very well done.

Hi Laura - It was nice seeing you there, and I hope that at least some of what I shared yesterday could be worked into one of your projects. If you ever need help with anything, let me know!

Do you know approximately how long the meeting will last ?

    July 18, 2013

    • Deirdre K.

Sorry, I saw it says 6 - 9 in the description.

Generally, these meetups have informal meet and greet time before the presentation. After Chris' presentation, it's an open discussion and a perfect time to ask specific questions related to your own projects. It's always been a great source of information, but you choose how long to stay.

Definitely, Suzanne! I think you'll find it really valuable, whether you're new in your journey or a bit more advanced.

Is it worth coming if I don't have my site up yet ?

    July 9, 2013

    • Chris F.

Hi Deirdre - If you're planning on building one, I actually think it would be helpful to learn some of this stuff ahead of time. That way you can build it into your site rather than retrofitting it afterwards.
