Updates on WordPress in the area

We had our Dec meetup last night and it was great. Although we were a small crew, it meant we got to dive headfirst into an issue one of our members was having. We replaced the default header in the Twenty Eleven theme with a slider plugin and adjusted the styling to match the original design again. And although it seemed like a small issue, along the way everyone learned something new about WordPress. For instance, I learned about the Headway Themes framework (http://headwaythemes.com/) which has what seems to be an amazingly intuitive theme builder. We also delved into WordPress theme code by editing the header.php file, using Firebug to test and adjust styles, etc. It's actually something I would like to see more of at our meetups and I encourage you to come to the meetups with issues you're experiencing or have experienced with WordPress. WordPress has so many different layers you can access it on and everyone learns different pieces as needed. When we problem solve together we discover different aspects or features of WordPress. And there's always multiple ways to come at a problem. Perhaps we could do the first hour as networking / problem solving followed by some lightning talks.

In other news, the Manchester, NH WordPress meetup is being re-activated. Another member there and myself have stepped up to make sure it didn't fold when the previous organizer stepped down. The first meetup will be Thurs Jan 31 at the ABI Innovation Hub in Manchester (http://abihub.org/). More details will be forthcoming soon at: http://www.meetup.com/WordPressDevNH/

As for our group, we are continuing to meet on the first Wed of the month at Alpha Loft in Portsmouth (http://alphaloft.com/), however we will be skipping January because the first Wed is Jan 2 and that is still holidaze recovery time in my book. Our upcoming meetups will be:
Wed Feb 6, 6:30-8:30
wed Mar 6, 6:30-8:30
Wed Apr 3, 6:30-8:30
As always we are interested in having folks present short talks on anything WordPress related they feel up for sharing. It doesn't have to be formal or involve slides, just share some knowledge. We always have a laptop and a projector set up too. If you are interested, please contact me at [address removed].

Also, I noticed this post recently on our discussion board. Thought I would re-post it here in case anyone can help Justin out. If you want to keep up on notices people post, please visit our group's discussion board (http://www.meetup.com/WordpressDevSeacoast/messages/boards/) and click Track this message board.
Hi,

I am looking to hire a tutor for 2-4 hrs to help me get a bit further in learning how to use Wordpress and specifically Pagelines software inside Wordpress. I live in Scarborough ME and can drive about 30 min if needed.

If you are interested let me know. My email is: [address removed]

Thanks and have a great day.
