Over the years we have looked outside our country for things that were extraordinary - Thai Food, salsa, the Tango, Latin Music, steel drum, black tea, mojitas - all exotic to us.

However most of us have ignored the view from inside our on borders. Forgetting, I think, that a peach is as exotic to someone from Asia or to a person from India as a mango or a cup of green tea is to those of us who were born in U.S.

I have so many times looked at the vast changes in our country and wondered why we did not see how really extraordinary and exotic our own cultures, our people and our own regional cuisines, music and dance really are.

Given all of the changes in our country and our lifestyles in the last decade or so, I thought it might be good to consider our own country and our own people. Focusing on how each different perspective from the U.S. can be used to better understand the current events and how are lives are impacted.

So, let's start a journey of self reflection into our own different and unique cultures (top to bottom) beginning with the ways of one segment of modern, southern women.

Here's the first book: "Girls in Trucks" by Katie Crouch.
