Myanmar Baptist Church Fun Fair

This is a reprise of our group's visit to this annual event two years ago:
Burmese Fun Fair 2007 You can travel there by taking the E or F train, both of which run express through much of Queens, to Briarwood/Van Wyck Blvd. (out near the end of the lines). This weekend, both trains will be stopping at the Van Wyck station, but they may skip some stations in Manhattan or Queens; consult this
MTA service advisory for details. Leave the station on the north or east side of Queens Blvd. (the exit is marked one or the other, I'm not sure which) and look for 84th Drive. Not 84th Rd. or 84th Ave. -- Queens can be confusing that way -- but 84th Drive. Follow the curving drive for about 10 minutes, walking through a largely residential neighborhood, till you see the fun fair, on your left. I plan to arrive before noon, even if folks haven't started serving food. Even though the tables are under large tents in the center of the backyard (at least, they were in 2007), I'll be ready to head home by about 2:00, when it's getting real hot. If you won't be joining us this Saturday, there are many more
food-friendly events in my weekly roundup. Though it's not an official World Food Lover's event, I'm hoping to revisit the Indonesian mosque in Astoria; this Sunday's bazaar is probably their last of the summer.

It was my maiden voyage with the group and it met every expectation - enticing food and engaging conversation. Simply put, a delightful afternoon!

This was my second year at this event. I didn't get to meet the group but had delicious, fresh authentic food for a great price.

Inexpensive, authentic food, freshly made by a Burmese community. Some wonderful things I have never had before! Great company to share the meal with. Meetup people stayed for a while longer after eating just to talk, even though the loud music made this quite a bit difficult.

The food was great and the attendees encouraged others to try things they bought, which certainly added to the experience. Dave is a good organizer who helps the group along. And remember: it is under a tent in a church backyard in August. so listen to Dave and come early!

As I understand it, the E train will NOT be making any 8th Ave. stops in Manhattan for the next few weekends, including on the 15th. It will be re-routed onto 6th Ave. with the F train, but then will operate normally when it reaches 53rd St., and normally in Queens. I think.

Looking forward to this meetup. I've been to a couple of these Burmese Fun Fairs before. The food is good.
