Whole Roast Pig and Seafood at Seabra's Marisqueira

Join us for a tasty whole roast pig and fantastic fresh seafood at one of the best restaurants in Newark's Ironbound, the famous Seabra's Marisqueira. It's a quick 22-minute ride on the PATH train from World Trade, or from Penn Station via NJ Transit, and then a short walk through Newark's beautiful, historic Ironbound neighborhood, home to many Portuguese immigrants. The cost should be approximately $25-$30 (including a $1 contribution to cover World Food Lovers' club costs, and not including drinks). You can save your spot with a $10 reservation; this will be credited to your tab. Directions from the train: Exit on the east side of Newark Penn Station (near the pizza place and the bar), turn right, walk across Market St., and walk down Ferry St., which quickly turns charming. Go a few short blocks and make a right on Madison St. If you're driving, there is free parking for Seabra's Marisqueira customers.

Wonderful! The pig was tender and juicy and I enjoyed the company.

The food and company was excellent. First time for cockles and really enjoyed them. I hope someone posts a picture of the pig!

Sensational event! An entire roasted pig and caldrons of paella, cockles, shrimp, grilled Portuguese sausages, paper thin crispy potato "chips" - add to this recipe an entire table full of world-traveled , warm and completely friendly, intelligent, accomplished and cheerful members - it had no equal! Great group! And, it was unbelievably affordable - the organizers ordered the perfect assortment of food and it seemed, judging by the quantities, that it would have been twice what we paid individually. Remarkable, truly!

Oops! Soccer game tonight! There will be lines to buy PATH tickets. If you're taking PATH, remember, you can use *pay-per-ride* Metrocards, but PATH does NOT accept unlimited-trip Metrocards (e.g. 30-day cards). If you don't have a *pay-per-ride* Metrocard, then to avoid lines, buy a $3.50 card ELSEWHERE (like ANY NYC subway station) for your round-trip BEFORE you reach a PATH station. PATH deducts $1.75 each way when you're using a pay-per-ride Metrocard, so $3.50 is good for round-trip.
