Outdoor food-friendly events for this Sunday, and next

I'm not traveling far from home today, so you won't find me at most of the fairs and festivals on my weekly list of food-friendly events. I plan to visit the salsa party in Harlem this afternoon, briefly, before doing further "fieldwork" in the neighborhood in support of an upcoming newspaper article.

Once again, though, I'd like to mention the Burmese Water Festival on the Lower East Side; our group had a lively time at last year's festival. My best recommendations for you, if you plan to go, would be to get there before noon (the blacktop schoolyard gets hot) and to wear clothing that won't suffer too much from splashing. It's not hard to avoid the "water play" in one corner of the schoolyard, though in the midafternoon heat, it may look more and more attractive!

Finally, I'm considering an informal group outing to a similar event next Sunday, July 19, in Astoria, Queens. Watch your inbox for a poll on this event.

Hope to see you soon,
