Senegalese rhythms with a touch of reggae, salsa
NILA Band is an exciting new project that sets out to bring together some of Senegalese most exciting talent in a collaboration that will take the audience on a journey of traditional music through to the influences of blues, Salsa, jazz, reggae and Mbalax that infuses Senegalese music today.
The formation of NILA Band, meaning ‘this is the way’ in Wolof, has come about to give the opportunity for a rare project in which these well known artists in their own rights come together to create some truly amazing music which will surely have you dancing on your feet from the beginning until the end
Alioune Samb was also born Dakar, Senegal, and surrounded by diverse musical styles ranging from traditional African music, to the more modern Jazz, Blues and Salsa. In 2004 he came to UK an toured playing at several festivals in the UK, including Glastonbury, Womad, Marlborough and some venues in Wales.
Amadou Diagne is a Singer, guitarist and highly skilled percussion musician From Dakar Senegal. Born into a Griot family of Sabaar drummers and praise singers he has been surrounded by the traditional Griot music and folk lore of West Africa from birth. This beginning was further enhanced by a full time position as a member of the Senegal national band for seven years.
