Biodiesel 101: Benefits & Challenges

Join CarbonfreeDC on June 9 to learn about biodiesel, an alternative--and even local--fuel source made from vegetable oils. At the workshop, you'll learn about both the benefits and challenges associated with this alternative fuel source and how you could get your vehicle off of fossil fuels.
Frankie Abralind, a veteran biodiesel expert and editor of biodieselSMARTER magazine, will keynote the workshop. Specific topics will include:

  • environmental issues associated with the development and use of biofuels

  • if your vehicle is biodiesel-ready

  • how you can start home brewing biodiesel from waste vegetable oil (think McDonald's)

  • all of the local information you need to get started, such as regulations, incentives, local fueling stations and biodiesel co-ops near you

About Frankie Abralind Frankie Abralind designed and built a farm-scale biodiesel plant four years ago in Montgomery County, MD. For the last four years he’s fueled 30 pieces of the farm’s heavy-duty equipment with biodiesel, all made from restaurant fryer oil collected within 20 miles of the farm. Frankie also publishes biodieselSMARTER, a magazine for folks who use or make biodiesel all around the country.

Good talk covering the basics of what Biodiesel is, how to get involved, and some case studies. Nice group of concerned citizens.
