Book and Film Discussion: The Hours

The Hours is a 1998 novel written by Michael Cunningham. It won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was later made into an Oscar-winning 2002 movie of the same name starring Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore. The book is one of our member's (Greg) favourite novels and he continues to love the film after multiple viewings so we'll either all fall in line and love it too, or have a very heated discussion!

The book concerns three generations of women affected by the Virginia Woolf novel Mrs Dalloway and I'd recommend reading the story while sitting in Grantchester Orchard enjoying a cream tea and imagining Ms Woolf writing next to you.

We'll meet again at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse. Keep an eye out for the book on the table.

You can buy the book from Amazon or your local bookshop, and can buy the DVD from Amazon or watch online with Netflix.

Here's the trailer.

Happy reading and viewing!

FYI, I went to see 'Boyhood' at Arts Picturehouse the other day (which was amazing) and they showed a trailer for 'The Congress', so I assume they will be playing it there soon.
