Event Host

Writers want to write as much as they can. Let's make it happen. With such a simple idea it should be possible for lots of hosts to run regular events all over.

Benefits of being The Host

  • You get to have meeting where and when you want
  • You get more writing done
  • You are helping others to write too
  • And it's pretty easy

Suggest/Create an Event
Anyone can suggest an event. Suggested events are announced once you have 3 or more guests. Reliable hosts are promoted to Event Organisers.
  • Title with hours and location e.g. "2h writing in Waterloo" or "2h writing in Waterloo + social"
  • Location with venue name and address
  • Description with something friendly and inviting
  • Don't ask questions in the description. Use decisive language. e.g. "We'll be sitting in the front room" instead of "Do people want to sit in the front or back room?"
  • Mention social time after writing seesion (if you are doing it)
  • First time host must run one event only first (i.e. do one and see if you like it)

Running the Event
  • Print and display the Table Sign
  • Greet people warmly but then encourage them to get working
  • Be a little strict. Remind chatty people that its okay to talk after the writing session.
  • Don't be discouraged if few people turn up, or worst case no one turns up. People might show up late or unexpectedly. You can still (and should) work on your writing for the full time.
  • Afterwards, edit the attendance for your event and mark No Shows. It's useful to know who has a habit of saying Yes but doesn't turn up.

Regular Groups
Reliable hosts can create repeating weekly events with their own identity
  • Approval from Write Together organiser
  • Proper title e.g. "2h Richmond Writers" or "2h Richmond Writers + social"
  • Repeating schedule on calendar
  • Attendee limit and waiting list
