Critique & Goal Setting at Enigma Bookstore

Come join fellow writers at Enigma!

We will be sitting in the back of the store.

Work to be critiqued is determined at preceding meetups. Up to 2 pieces are critiqued at a meeting, but 3 may be posted. Please read them all. Works to be critiqued are indicated in the comments section and should have the meetup date in the description. Files to read can be found in the files section under the more tab above.

*For those posting: In the upload description please indicate the date the work is for. Unless the piece is a chapter, please keep uploads to 15-20 pages in length, double-spaced, 11-12 size font. In the description as well as in your piece, please include your name, the title of your work, and a summary of the type of feedback you're looking for. Please number your pages and post by Friday at noon.

The group's agenda will be as follows:

7-7:15 - chat, introductions.

7:15-8:00 - set writing goals for upcoming week

8:00- 9:00 - provide feedback for chosen pieces

9:00 - 9:15 - chat, discuss group matters.

When critiquing a fellow writer's work, please begin by telling the writer what WORKED for you in the piece, what you liked, what you enjoyed and why. It is as important for writers to know what they're doing right as what they're doing wrong. After you share what you enjoyed, offer suggestions for what can be improved! Each person will have a max of 5 minutes to offer feedback. The writer will listen without responding, and will then have 5 minutes for a response to the group.

Enigma is a new bookstore.  They hope more people will discover and support them.  Take a look at their nice selection of books. Maybe there is something that will interest you!

See you there,

Dan

on my way home yesterday, i drove down 21st Street in Astoria. Triggered memories of my childhood and the times when... You know i had to stop the car, take out the pen and notebook (which i strangely had with me) and do the deed! now i've entered that new category of writing. See you guys tonight!

my favorite time 4 AM. here i am making up for lost time earlier this week. in this saturday sunday grey area, i've reviewed things i've already written. i've updated and edited things on my site. i've begun my next blog, now 2 pages, but eventually may be quite or at least a little longer - titled, "compassion, empathy" and to be posted eventually, not right away. and i'm about to finish up another bad poem. and yes, i have cheated a little. cheating is good as long as you write.

I already told Jessica that I wrote two hours the other day at the office into my commute. Today, I spent two to three crazy hours on my resume and cover letter. It has drained me enough that I am counting that as reaching my goal for this week so far. Or is that cheating?

Hi Jane. here, "crazy hours" and being "drained" are the qualifying factors. so you can claim them for your goal. but i wouldn't actually go and ask if it is cheating. (pssst, you can boast that it IS cheating and that would be ok, but don't ask.)

Dan, Very good point about Enigma. I'm going to get there 15 mins early on Monday so I can browse and try to find something to purchase.
BTW: My bad poem smells worse than the Newtown Creek Treatment Plant when the wind is blowing out of the west.

no, no, no, haven't been writing. i better get this goals thing straightened out. As i've already told Jessica, next time i will just have to stick with the "write every day" goal and just rest when i can.
and as always, i hope everyone is having some writing success.
difficult week, screw-up week, don't repeat. and start gettin your bad poems ready!

My goals are as before, 1,000 words and a new blog. Distractions, including work, abound.
