Critique & Goal Setting at Enigma Bookstore

PLEASE READ:

Welcome all writers and thank you for joining! (Find us at the back of the store.)

Our agenda is as follows:

7-7:15 - chat, introductions (newcomers please be on time for intros)

7:15-8:00 - set writing goals for upcoming week & share obstacles

8:00-9:00 - provide feedback for the two or three chosen pieces

9:00-9:15 - chat, discuss group matters, and choose works for next week

How to receive feedback:

IF you would like to be critiqued, you must attend at least one meetup to become familiar with and understand the format of the meetings. You do NOT have to be critiqued if you wish not to be. In the preceding meetup we choose two writers to be critiqued. The third work is a backup if time permits. Please read them all.

How to post:

1) Post only if you have been chosen to be critiqued and by noon on the preceding Friday. (For critique outside of meetups please post in "Pages" in the menu above.)

2) Before Posting:  Length: 15 - 20 pgs (can be shorter)

                                   Double-spaced (unless for aesthetics)

11-12 point font (no smaller or larger)

                                   Number your pages

3) Post in Files under More tab with this description:

Name

Meetup date

Description of your work

Type of feedback you would like

(As description box allows. Also post in the document.)

When critiquing: (Always use "I" when critiquing)

1) Each person is allotted 5 mins. The writer is also allotted 5 mins to respond after everyone has spoken.

2) Share what worked and/or what you liked/ enjoyed and why.

3) Offer suggestions/ constructive criticism for improvement.

*Suggested donation is $5 for the Enigma Bookstore  for being kind enough to let us use their space. Or you may purchase an item or a book to your liking. Donations will be collected on the premises.

See you there,

Dan

Hi I enjoyed being in this group last week but am not free tonight to make it. I did fulfill my writing goal of writing one day last week, and it felt great. I hope to be at the next one - enjoy!

Great! Sorry for the late response. We hope you keep the same writing goal or go for more writing. Whichever pace you are at, we hope you continue! See you soon~

Hey Kyle: Congrats on the goal and we're glad you enjoyed the event. We hope you'll continue to produce and attend. If you want add your goal to the upcoming meetup.

I am going to try to make it tonight AND I am sitting down to write today. I've been sick for over a week—it appears to have mostly run its course, but I still have a cough (I may wear a mask if it persists). I have read and critiqued the 3 pieces posted for tonight and if I need to back out, I will email my notes to the authors.

Oh. I know! you listen to the voice, and then you say, "I appreciate your feedback" and you write anyway.

I thought the meeting went well. I am aways so impressed how Nadra critiques the material. Hopefully, in the near future I could improve in this area.

i will be posting 2 more poems to the 2nd poem page on my site. just finished these. also i'm struggling with the girl fight. I have no training or experience with news reporting and it just seems like a long list of events. but i've spent quite a bit of time writing even if it is only 1 and one quarter pages long. I have been having a great writing week. wrote every day! honestly i didn't think i would get this far.

Hey all: I worked all afternoon on the two pieces I just uploaded, "On Writing Personal Essays" and "Professor 2." They're both short. I'm pretty wiped. I think I'll go home and take a break before starting up again. I've just got so many pieces I want to write and I decided today would be the one day of the week I would really concentrate on them. Sorry for submitting so late. Jane and John- I win :)

i think i should write about the incident. it would be a good writing experience and this week, as much as i've tried, i have not yet written enough.

I don't know about how you guys are doing but I haven't been too productive this week. And too productive is a unequivocal euphemism. LOL I'm glad for Dan, though!

I have 2 poems done and i decided to post them on my site. I posted one poem called "how i think i," i hope you will read it. it might be good to read "please be advised", just above it first. http://www.dogagog.com/poems--poetics-1.html

then, there is another poem called "and could you be me?" on the second poem page.
    http://www.dogagog.com/poems--poetics-2.html

these are posted just because i wanted to post them. not necessarily for critiquing but if you do want to, your comments are welcome. thanks.

I thought I posted these. Your writing goals this week if you decide to accept them:

Jessica: writer everyday. Leave the house to do writing this weekend. Work on something for public consumption.
Jane: Write 3 days this week
Kyle: write 1 day this week
John: write 1/2 hour, 5 days this week
Peter: write 2 days this week, 1/2 hour each
    Dane: write A LOT
Nadra: write 2 days this week

Up for critique: Peter, whoever uploads first, but possibly Jessica/John/Jane.
