Free Panel: Getting Press with Seven Days, Burlington Free Press, Pitchfork

Artists of every genre and experience level are invited to a free panel discussion in the Black Box Theater of the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center, featuring writers from Seven Days, The Burlington Free Press, and Pitchfork. Seven Days music editor Dan Bolles, Burlington Free Press Arts & Entertainment Writer Brent Hallenbeck, and music journalist Casey Rae (Pitchfork, Dusted Magazine, Groove Magazine, Signal To Noise, Washington City Paper) will all be hanging out with you for a conversation about getting press - what you should know or do as a musician to pave the way to exposure in the publications that matter to you.

It’s February 26, 7pm, free and all-ages, and happens just before a free family-friendly concert with singer songwriter Maryse Smith followed by HOT Flannel, featuring fiddler Patrick Ross https://www.facebook.com/events/193800104147146/ . Main Street Landing’s Black Box Theater is located at 60 Lake Street in Burlington. This monthly panel & concert event is part of the Rocket Shop Live at Main Street Landing series presented by Big Heavy World, Main Street Landing, and RETN with support from Advance Music, Moreau Theatrical Services, 105.9FM The Radiator, the Vermont Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts.

Brent Hallenbeck has been with the Burlington Free Press since 1999 and became arts and entertainment writer in 2004. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English at SUNY Plattsburgh. He has seen thousands of bands in concert, but don’t ask him to name all of them. He and his wife share a house that’s approximately 92 percent filled with CDs, LPs, cassette tapes and the occasional 8-track tape.

Dan Bolles has been the Music Editor of Seven Days newspaper since 2007-ish.

Casey Rae is a musician, educator, journalist and media pundit. As acting Executive Director of the Future of Music Coalition, he regularly speaks at conferences, universities and in the media on such issues new business models for artists, telecommunications policy and intellectual property. Casey routinely works alongside leaders in the music, arts and performance sectors to bolster understanding of and engagement in key policy and technology issues, and has written dozens of articles on the impact of technology on the creative community. Casey is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Media & Democracy Coalition and the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture. He currently records and publishes under the moniker The Contrarian and is the Grand Poobah of Lux Eterna Records. Casey was the former Music Editor of Seven Days Newspaper in Burlington, VT and played in many area bands in his 15 years as a resident of the Green Mountain State. He is a conributing writer to Washington City Paper, Signal to Noise, Dusted Magazine, Grooves Magazine, Pitchfork, and The Contrarian Media.
