Who is your favorite swing, jazz, big band, or blues musician?

so many but i love Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, but interests range from new to old.

Where did you first try swing or blues dancing?

a few years ago a friend from MD taught be and brought be out and I got the dance bug! Unfortunately i then was in an accident, knee surgery and couldn't dance for a few years. But over the last 6 months I am back and dancing several times a week and crave it when i am not. I think dance (and music/arts of all kinds) are like breathing to our soul, we cant live a vibrant life without them, they make life so much better and when dancing i am so filled with joy that all the other stresses melt away. I live in mystic and i dance all over, providence, east lyme, hartford, middletown, yale/new haven and finding new locations all the time.

What other kinds of dancing do you do?

I work full time as an Occupational therapist, wellness therapist, teach meditation, some basic tai chi/qi gong, expressive and creative arts, healing touch and reiki, using music and arts for therapy. I act in theater and faires. I learned east coast swing first and that is what i am most comfortable with but i love and am learning more lindy, charlston, the shim sham, a little balboa, love love love the blues. And thanks to all the great partners/leaders who teach me something new every time! I am starting to learn to lead but not yet comfortable but i try. I do other dancing for fun, even hula and a little belly dancing, learned a little hustle and fox trot, a little waltz, a touch of this or that and am willing to learn anything new if my partner wants to teach me. I think that dancing with joy is the most important thing- feeling the music and sharing the joy.

Dance is joy, energizes the spirit, sharpens the mind and strengthens the body. Dance is a language in itself, a conversation without the need for words, a song the body sings, a 3 minute love affaire.
