Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia today. It attracts a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds and age groups with different levels of fitness. This is what makes it one of the most diverse sports available in Australia today.

We are the Yarra River Dragons, one of the newest clubs in Melbourne. Whilst we are a competitive club and enter various different regattas we are also a sociable, fun and easy-going bunch! So whilst you will usually find us training around Vic Harbour, we also like to explore Melbourne with various social events such as dinners, weekends away and even recently the Melbourne Show.

We are looking for like-minded, sociable people who like the outdoors and have a sense of adventure to join our club. It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience of the sport as we will be there to help train you up! You don't have to be super sporty or really fit, just keen to have a bit of an adventure and some fun. We train at 6.15pm on Wednesdays and 8.45am on Saturdays, from our base at Shed 2 in Docklands, Melbourne. There's parking outside the shed or if you're taking public transport it's a 5-10 minute walk from the end of Collins St.

In terms of what to wear and bring, we suggest sports shorts/trousers and a t-shirt/sweater - anything lightweight is fine, just avoid denim as it gets really heavy if it gets wet. Bring a towel and a change of clothes (there are changing rooms and hot showers), in case you get splashed, a water bottle and a good sense of humour. We'll provide paddles, life jackets, boats and a lot of fun!

If you're keen to come along, send us an email to have-a-go@yarrariverdragons.com letting us know which session you're aiming for. When you arrive at training ask for David, Eliza, Amanda or Isobel who will kit you up, give you a safety briefing and get you out on the water! And the best bit? The first 3 sessions are FREE!  There we go, it's that simple! See you soon :-)
