I'm excited to announce a new class at Mesa Rim Climbing and Yoga Center! Rock climbing is a moving meditation that shares many qualities with yoga. You can increase your focus, build strength, and have fun while experiencing that mind-body connection. I've designed a Yin Yoga class especially suited for rock climbing. If you've never climbed before, the gym is an easy way to try it out, before embarking on a wonderful outdoor adventure. If you need shoes, harness or a belay device, they are available for rent at the front desk. If you are an experienced climber and would like to lead climb, bring your own rope.
Let’s meet at Mesa Rim for a 4:30 p.m. Yin Yoga class. Yin Yoga involves long slow floor poses for gently nudging away tightness in deep connective tissues of the joints. After a workout, yin poses will release and lengthen pumped muscles. If you’ve been thinking of trying a yoga class, this is a great place to start. After enhancing our focus and priming our flexibility for high steps, big stems and long reaches with yoga, we’ll climb until 7:30 or so. If you need a partner, I’ll help you find one. If you can’t make it by 4:30, look for me around 5:45 leaving the yoga room (or ask the front desk staff to point me out on the wall or slackline).
If this is your first visit to Mesa Rim, allow time to sign a waiver and find your way around the gym. Class starts promptly at 4:30 p.m. in Mesa Rim's lovely upstairs yoga studio.
Beginning Yogis are welcome! New climbing members will have to take a belay test before hitting the ropes and those interested in lead climbing should bring their own rope. If you have never climbed before, Mesa Rim offers beginner belay lessons on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and weekends but not on Tuesday or Thursday. Please call them to schedule a beginner lesson before coming to the Meetup. You are also welcome to come just for the yoga class.
Mention that you're with the Yoga & Meditation Adventure Meetup group and get $2 off a day pass (regularly $17). If you’re just coming for yoga, the drop in rate is $15 per class, and the Meetup rate is $13 (same $2 discount). Add a climbing day pass for $7.
