Yoga DC is dedicated to sharing yoga and meditation with our community in the District, Maryland, and Virginia. We offer Yoga meetups, Meditation meetups, and outdoor events/classes. The group may also go hiking, eat together or hang out after class. Persons of all experience levels are welcome.
Yoga, an ancient Indian body of knowledge, dates back over 5000 years. Yoga’s purpose is unity and harmony through integrating the body, the mind, and the spirit. For such harmony and unity to grow, emotion, action, and intelligence must be in balance. Ancient Yogis developed a way to achieve and maintain this balance through exercise, breathing, and meditation - the three main structures of Yoga.
Meditation is one of the main principles of Yoga. It is the practice by which there is careful observation of the mind. It requires you to focus your mind at one point and make your mind still in order to perceive the 'self'. Through the practice of Meditation, you will achieve a greater sense of purpose and strength of will. It also helps you achieve a clearer mind, improve your concentration, and discover the wisdom and peace within you.
