Codorus Summer Blast Potluck dinner followed by kayaking under the Fireworks

Summary-  meet for potluck dinner and socializing, followed by kayaking on the lake to watch the fireworks from the Summer Blast event.

Food: Everyone is to bring- their own main dish for their group, drinks, plates and utensils, and a lawn chair.  Also bring a side dish to share with the group.  This offers a great variety of choices for dinner.

Kayaking:  any PA Boat commission approved watercraft for this lake is welcome to join us. All watercraft must have the required safety equipment on board.  Kayaks and canoes require a launch permit/registration, life vest, light source (a working flashlight will meet this requirement), and a whistle. Boats must be registered and have all required safety features per PA Boat Commission regulations.

Everyone is responsible for obtaining their own watercraft equipment for this event.  Some members MAY or MAY NOT have equipment to share with others.  PLEASE!  Do no wait until the week of the event to start looking into borrowing, renting, etc. equipment.

There is NO NIGHTTIME RENTAL available at the lake. You can rent some equipment, but it would be due back prior to sundown, thereby negating the purpose of this event-  watching the fireworks from the water.

You are more than welcome to join us even if you do not go out on the water.  I am not sure how well you can see the fireworks from our launch point, though members have stayed ashore and enjoyed the event.

This has been a crowd pleaser in the past.  I look forward to seeing the familiar faces, and many new ones!

Oh, yea!  Full moon is the next night! So we will have the moonlight as well... what more can we ask for?

More details to follow!

Another memorable evening under the full moon with the spectacular fireworks and the great company. I missed the old friends who moved away - I wish them well wherever they are. I'm glad to meet new friends. Once again, thanks to Ron for showing me the way out of the after fireworks traffic and the most refreshing sun tea I've ever had, thank you Marie for the hot dog. A special thank you to the local government for the BIG firework show in this austerity climate. A BIG THANK YOU to KJ for setting this up year after year. Wish all a great summer. John

    Tonight should be a BLAST!
Just a FYI. Every year when we are cleaning up, there are many items left unclaimed, and possibly thrown out. Your mother isn't on this event so PLEASE clean up after yourself. Try to keep track of your stuff (write name on it) so if it turns up we'll know who's it is.
At the end of the night, a few of us get stuck there for an extra 1/2 hour cleaning up OUR mess. Please pitch in, and help, so it can be done in 5-10 minutes.

I rsvp'ed during the noon hour, hope it went through in time. Are tubes allowed if equiped with flashlight and whistle? I didn't have time to get a kayak.

    June 22, 2013

    • Marie

I don't know what PA regulations are on tubes, but on this make I'm going to guess no. I think I night my kayak at 2pm the day of this event last year, lol. There was a sale at Dick's :-)

  • Angela

I will need to borrow a watercraft as I do not have one...

    June 14, 2013

  • KJ

Ok gang, this event is quickly approaching! Reminder to have-

Watercraft: MUST BE properly licensed, and equipped with necessary safety items. New/Good batteries in flashlights is a good idea too! Food: don't forget to bring something to share. We have lots of people coming so we'll have a great variety of stuff. (See above for what you are responsible for)

Lawn Chairs: bring them, as there is only a couple of picnic tables that we use to put the food on.

How to find us: Impossible to miss if you are at the right location. There will be inflatable kayaks, table top grill, pop-ups, and ME there to
greet you. Location: Rt 216 & Smith Station Road, across street from Park Office. Hopefully everyone made arrangements with someone to use/borrow their watercraft. We do not provide them on site without prior arrangement.
Looking forward to a relaxing evening, seeing old friends, and new. Welcome to one of our most popular events.
