Leftover Cookie Hike

Everyone has cookies that they love to eat at the holidays...and then there are the ones that no one in your family seems to like much. The beauty of a diverse group is that what is a "leftover" cookie at your house is someone else's favorite. I though this would be a fun way to remove any of those leftover cookies before we all start diets on Jan 2nd - and maybe find your favorite cookie in someone else's "leftover" pile!

We'll hike 3-4 miles before coming back to the start for our cookie exchange. Pace will be easy to moderate with some hilly terrain. Dogs and children are welcome as long as they are physically able to do the distance.

Bring along about a dozen of any leftover cookies from your holiday celebrations to share with your hiking buddies.  And don't forget a ziploc bag to bring home some of your favorites. I'll bring some styrofoam cups and a thermos of coffee and one of hot water for hot chocolate. We went through quite a bit of the hot beverages last year (maybe cause we hiked in the snow?) so if anyone has a good thermos and can bring some coffee/water it would be appreciated.

It was a beautiful day! I am so happy to see old friends and to make a few new ones yesterday. As the year-end closing in, it was good to have the opportunity to be out in the nature to reflect on the past year, and hope for a new one. I enjoyed the hike, the company, and the conversations - I learned so many things yesterday. It was a surprise that there are so many interesting thoughts in our small group of people. And I was surprised, but pleased, to learn that some of us had enjoyed hiking here as long as, or even longer than, I have been although we never ran into each other before, maybe we will in the coming year. Happy New Year for all. John

Oh, the cookies were excellent :) The coffee was perfect after the hike. The apricot cookies, the warm coffee, ... YES, I can certainly do this again! Thank you all!

I'm hoping to get a big coffee to go box from Big Apple Bagels. Not sure what lead time they need but will check tomorrow morning.

And for those without any leftover cookies, no worries. One of the most popular contributions last year were a few soft pretzels (that were somehow still warm!)

My son and I have a busy morning. If we are not at the boat launch at 1:00 leave without us. We will catch up on the next hike.

    December 28, 2013

  • Ray

What trails are you planning on hiking?

    December 26, 2013

    • Marie

Since we are starting from the boat launch (and I don't want to go all the way around Redman), we'll start out on 3 or 3a and then play it by ear. I expect to hike about 2 hours or a bit more (3-5 miles).

I'm hoping to attend, but physically I am a low point due to ongoing medical issues as well as medication side effects. So if I get very winded, don't worry I will survive :)

    December 24, 2013

    • Laura

I'll bring some extra wind for ya Ray.

Hello-Is your group accepting new members? I would love to attend. I am looking for an active social activity that will provide opportunity to make new friends. I might be having company but plans are tentative. If so, I hope to attend the next hike. Would you mind clarifying directions? I'm sure I can find the lake. I'm just not sure of the specific meeting place. Thank you~Sharon

Marie is this hike at Rocky Ridge or Redman? The directions or for Rocky Ridge, but the location is listed as Redman. Just want to make sure I show up at the right park :)

    December 2, 2013

    • Marie

Redman. I copied last year's event (which was at RR) but neglected to update the description. It has been corrected. Thanks for keeping me straight :-)

This was a lot of fun last year and the cookies were tastey. Sorry I will have to miss it this year.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
