Mountaineering in the Snowdonia

The Ogwen valley in Snowdonia is one of Britain’s finest mountain areas. For sheer concentration of amenable classic routes in one small area it is probably unmatched by any other location in the country and it’s less than 3 hours away.

This will be a day trip only as all accommodation is fully booked due to it being a bank holiday. We'll keep an eye on the weather forecast and decide towards the end of the week whether to go on Saturday or Sunday.

We'll be looking to arrange car sharing for this one to cut down on petrol costs. This meet is not recommended for absolute beginners but if you've done a little bit of outdoor climbing and have got a head for heights you'll be OK. Your own shoes, harness, slings and carabiners would be handy, though we do have some spares between us, but do ask beforehand so we can bring them along. As usual there will be £3 subs or £1 for those who bring their own ropes and belay gear etc.

Some cracking shots, I'm jealous as hell. Looks like you had some good weather. Kevin, hope you were feeling better after last week. Bet you all slept well Sunday night.
Went for a look at Pule Hill in Marsden on Sunday with Lisa and the kids. Very windy and green in places but one or two good routes, not sure on grades though. Only just had enough time to put up a top rope before Lisa and Evie had to leave for a party. Leo managed a couple of climbs and some bouldering before we had to go. Altogether a good day out.
Also, I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a climb at Brimham Rocks on Sunday 26 May. We'll be up that way for the week and wanted to make the most of it.

Hi Mike, looks like there might be a bit of dampness on Sunday but nothing serious and I know plenty routes there that are do-able when wet so we'll get something decent done no problem. Sounds good about meeting up at the hostel in Conwy just let us know where to go exactly.

    Liz,
Are still planning on driving us there? Where do you want me and Kevin to meet you? At your house or some other convenient spot in the Manchester area? Let us know. Kevin said he'd probably send you a text mail tomorrow but if you could put something on the site before then that would be good for me as I'm not in the "text loop" and you know what I'm like for wanting to have everything organised.

Gerry and Elizabeth (and anyone else who signs up).Its looking more and more likely I can only make the Sunday, so i hope the weather's OK (If it looks like Saturday is the better day, just arrange something amongst yourselves and confer with Mike as he's going to be up in Conway with his walking group and (I think), can make either day

I too like a long walk, as long as it's down hill both ways and have my own pack horse. Still stiff from last weekend and a matching pair of blisters to boot. (wimper..)

Hi Liz, We're looking at climbing the Sub Cneifion Rib and Cneifion Arete, or if the rib's too busy we can do something on the Idwal Slabs to lead up to the arete. Either way, you're looking at a nice easy walk in, 20 to 40 minutes at the most. That's the great thing about Ogwen, you can get on to something good very quickly.

It'll probably be just one long day's outing (either Sat. or Sunday, depending on weather), as we'd forgotten it was Bank Holiday and all accomm. is full, but if you're keen and want to car share somehow, put your name down !
