Spain !

Fancy a week on the Costa Blanca ?. Me and Lizzie Crofts are heading there in November. I was there with Mike in February (at Calpe) and it offers a wealth of single and multi-pitch (sports and trad.) climbing.:

Accommodation is cheap at this time of the year but I would prefer it if you were ‘self-sufficient’ with organising your own flights, accommodation etc. and there’s some links below that we used. Flights are from as little as £70 return from Manchester and we’ve got car-hire for £44 for the week.
If there’s a few of us, we could be together as a group at the single-pitch venues, but some of the multi-pitch routes are really long so you need to operate just in pairs. if you want the bigger stuff...If you’re inspired, RSVP and put any queries up in the comments

Just found the UKClimbing page of the MMT:
    http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbo...
We didn't get many pics on the actual climbing, so there's some good stuff on here (I'm glad in a way, we didn't see these in advance !)

Remember this spot Ed ? !:

Hi Ed. I know you were asking about this when we were away, but I'd be interested to know as well if we have any 'techies' out there. I use IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) because UKclimbing recommended it. Once your image is up, choose 'Image' on the menu bar, then `Resize', then there seems to be all sorts of options you can play with. Regardless, I guess you ought to copy your original before you play about with it ...good luck !

... continued... should have added that maximum size on meetup is 10 megabytes so I need to know how to reduce them to less than 10 Megabytes. Thanks.

Can anyone help me please? I have a lot more photos of Spain to upload but as they were taken on a different camera they are mostly larger than 10 megabytes.

Did you manage to complete the 'magical mystery tour'? Wasn't it a HVS 5a? There was mention of old bolts, exposed pitches and ladders (which look pretty rickety) I'm having palpitations just thinking about it!!!!

    November 25, 2013

    • Kevin

Hi James. Yes, we did manage the whole route; we had to, because the abseils are to avoid the ladders and you pulll down the ropes behind you, so you're committed. Sorry there weren't more pics on the actual climbing (not sure if Ed got any), but things got quite serious after the last one I took, so we had to concentrate. Exposed it was !

A great time !...Sunny all the way and some cracking routes. The 'weirdest' outing of the week was the 'Magical Mysery tour' and I've put that up as a separate album. Thanks Ed for all yours and thanks everyone for making it a really good week

Thanks guys! I think i have plenty to go at there!
We do have the mountain leader books Patrick but I find they go through such a massive amount of different rope techniques with a presumption of some understanding that I find I am more confused than when I started! Hoping if I read a more general book or internet info it will sink in a bit and then when I am climbing I will take notice of techniques used rather than letting it go over my head and have the confidence to do it myself!

Can anyone recommend a good book that goes through basic climbing techniques like top roping, abseiling, multipitch etc, rope work? Cudnt work out where 2 put a General query on this site so just put it here! :-)

Anna, I can recommend "The Beginner's Guide To Rock Climbing" by Malcolm Creasy, published by Practical Handbooks though to be truthfull, I've got no idea why you're after such a book.

I'd love to come on this one, love to. Sadly I'm going to have to pass because I just can't shake off the old "vliegangst".

Nothing that a 'big ass' horse tranquilliser and a nip of brandy shouldn't cure. Remember Mr T? 'Ain't goin on no plane SUCKER!!!!!'

I´m spanish and in my opinion for climbing, hikes...montain in general the best place to go is Asturias, north Spain. November is gonna be hard cause of the weather. Is just an idea, i´ve been there lots of times and is amazing if you go in spring, even in winter is amazing but lot of snow...

Thanks Xabier...I've been to the area and in the Picos, though not for climbing and yes, it would be too cold in November...I've always fancied 'El Naranjo' so maybe next Summer eh ? !
