The Johnston Canyon Ice walk follows a series of steel catwalks that give spectacular views of the Johnston Canyon below. This popular ice walk will lead you past snow and ice that have formed brilliant icicles, the lower falls and to the breathtaking upper icefalls.
Dress for the winter conditions with warm layered clothing, toque, gloves, winter hiking boots, microspikes/ice poles are a must. Bring a packed lunch/snacks and enough water/fluids.
We will car pool on the day from Sirocco Park and Ride (17th ave SW). Johnston Canyon is located on the 1A and it’s about a 30 minute drive from Banff. You can also drive Highway 1 and take Castle Mountain junction to the right. Cross the train tracks and turn right on to the 1A. In about 5 minutes you will see the sign on your left.
