Swing Dancing

Let's go swing dancing!

One or two hundred people get together once or twice a week to dance it up.  It's a great environment, friendly to new dancers, or "non-dancers".  They've got classes before hand if you want to learn something or break some ice.  Let's go.

Here's what it looks like: http://youtu.be/7IoEWQRdl0M?t=59s

And here's a quintessential clip: http://youtu.be/qkthxBsIeGQ

If you want to take a class, there is a cost. It's $15 for a class [and it includes the dance, afterward]. Their calendar has more classes and details. The beginning class starts at 7:45.

After the classes, lots more people show up to dance to the DJ-ed music. If you're sorta shy, well lots of people are, but you can stick with the Nerds until you warm up to the place!

The price is included with a class. It's $10 for just the dance ($8 for students w/ ID). Music starts up at 8:30 and goes until, maybe 2am. People from the classes often hang around, and other people show up. Everybody's really pretty friendly.

To get there, check out this map: http://atomicballroom.com/location-information.php Trust me, look at it. It'll save you time.

Hey. I got there late and missed the lesson. I talked to one of the employees there, and she told me they have a similar lesson every Tuesday at 7:30 for $5. So I'm going to check it out this Tuesday. If anyone else wants to come, let me know and we can meet up with each other there. :)

I can't seem to find the place...is it right off Skypark, or more inside the complex?

I'm recovering from double stress fractures in both my Ankle & Foot and a high ankle sprain, and will probably move like a robot, but this sounds like a lot of fun.

No problem, Tu.The classes don't start right at their 7:45 scheduled time, usually a little later instead. By 8, they will already have started.

If you want to, you can either hop in a little late, or just watch everybody.

Remember to check the map link (above)! It can be pretty hard to find the first time.

For those of you who want to take a class, let's meet at 7:30 in front. For anybody else, text me to find the Nerds group. I'll send out an email with my cell number, in a sec.

"Dressy casual" would probably be a good average. I've seen everything from jeans and a t-shirt, to 3-piece suit. Because there's so much variety, everybody feels pretty free to wear want they want. I've seen shorts, but rarely. Overall, people dress it up a bit.

I do nice jeans and a button-up. If you're going to do a T-shirt, consider bringing an extra or two. Sweat.

Keep in mind, you'll be moving around. Here are some useful pointers:
    • Comfortable shoes.
    • Clothes that breathe.
    • Hair and jewelry shouldn't be too "dangly", to whip around.

If rain cancels my event I may show up to step on your feet. What are the ladies supposed to wear?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
