Hello again Young Harrisonburg,
About a month ago, I sent out an e-mail explaining how dues need to be paid, and the reasons for this. Unfortunately, very few people have paid their dues so far. If people don't take this seriously and invest a small amount in the group (only $10 per year) then this Meet-Up group WILL disappear. And that would be a real shame.
This is a great group with great people. The only way that this can continue is if people click the "Pay Online" button on the left side of the homepage (directly under the "About Us" section) Dues can be paid with either a debit or credit card. If you do not have access to a card and want to pay in cash or a check, please let either Derek M. (co-organizer) or myself (organizer) know and we can try to arrange that.
From here on out, if you have not paid your dues, you can not RSVP to an event. We have only taken this step because of how serious the situation is. If we do not have enough dues by October 22nd then the group will shut down. Permanently. Lets prevent this by all paying our dues and then getting the most out of your investment by actively participating in the group by not only attending events, but by posting events as well.
Remember, the organizer is responsible for paying the yearly $150 cost of having the Meet-Up group, and this is why dues are charged. $10 is a small price to pay for all the smiles and laughs that meet-up provides. Please pay as soon as possible so we can continue "meeting up" for fun events, making new friends, and continuing to build on the awesome group we have.
And do not worry about losing your money. In the unfortunate event that we do not receive enough dues to continue the group, I will personally refund what you paid. I know it says "No refunds on member dues" but this only means Meet-Up will not provide a refund. We want people to pay their dues and feel safe doing so, so of course we will refund anything you pay in the event the group does shut down. But lets make sure that doesn't happen by paying your $10.00 today. (It renews annually automatically and can be cancelled at any time).
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at an event soon!
P.S. In case you missed it, here is the original e-mail which goes into some more detail about why dues must be paid and what the extra funds will go towards. Please e-mail me with any additional questions you may have.
As you may or may not know, hosting a Meet-Up group is not free. It costs about $150.00 a year to keep the group going. This fee is paid by the Organizer of the group. As a result of this, we will need to start charging a small fee in order for you to maintain your membership in the group. New members who wish to join will also need to pay the same in order to do so.
The membership dues will be just $10.00 annually. That’s it! For less than the cost of ONE beer at some places, you get 6 months’ worth of fun activities and events, a chance to meet new people and build new friendships, and an active social life that is good for the body, mind, and soul. And all of this taking place in or around our beloved Harrisonburg. Except for maybe finding a first-edition Gutenberg Bible in the five-dollar book bin at a yard sale… Where else could you get so much for only $5.00?! ($10.00 per year) Keep reading for information on how to pay your membership dues.
Great things are ahead for Young Harrisonburg. Our membership is growing, we have had some great events, and we have a new leadership team dedicated to continuously improving the group for all members. However, the success or failure of a meet-up group lies mainly with how active and committed its membership is. So, I hope everyone will not only stick with us and pay the small membership dues, but also get the most out of your $5.00/$10.00 commitment by not only attending events, but posting new events to share with the group as well. Only you know what you like to do, so don’t be shy… Post it up, and you just might be surprised at how many other people want to join you. And if not, don’t be discouraged. For different reasons, some events are more popular than others. But our goal is to hopefully make every event a successful one by encouraging active participation. A growing membership is great, but it really only means anything if people are creating and attending events.
So, with these changes I hope you will only see the group get better and better. We all just want to have a fun time with a great group of people. I’m sure most of you do as well. So please make your $10.00 payment through the link on the group home page as soon as possible. Payment can be made with a credit or debit card. Any excess funds we receive will go into an account to be used solely for group activities. Party supplies, sports equipment, campsite reservation fees, etc. whatever we might need for, or to enhance, an activity or event.
Thanks for reading & I look forward to seeing you at a new-and-improved Young Harrisonburg event soon!
