Young LGBTQ Madison Happy Hour

So, after reading the comments and the articles on the Shamrock I had an idea...  who say's we can't do Happy Hour more than once?!  Someone brought up Genna's and I think that's a great idea.  Very LGBT friendly, wonderful atmosphere, and a great patio area for those cool fall nights (Someone tell me, do they even have a nifty fire pit? ).  Is Friday okay with everyone?

More ideas for LGBT friendly bars in the area?  Opus Lounge, Woofs, The Mediterranean Hookah Lounge?

I do think once the Shamrock re-opens that we should plan an outing there.  They have been a staple in the LGBT community since the 80's and is quite a blast.

Hey...next time we should organize this a little better, like agree to meet in a certain spot or put a Meet-up sign on the table. I got the feeling there were a lot of people (like me) who showed up, didn't know who was part of the Meet-up group, and then left. I kept hearing from the bartenders that different people were asking, but no one could seem to find each other.

I hope to meet all of you at another event!

Her response: "yes" So then I asked: "So what's your group about? Does it have a theme?" She said. "Yes, kind of." I asked: "Is it a homosexual theme?" She said, "No." This was not a fun way to search for a group...Not recommended for future Meet-ups!

Hey Nick, I think I actually might have seen you, but wasn't sure. I saw the back of your head as I was leaving and you were surrounded by a gaggle of women, so I figured it couldn't be the gay group, because besides yourself I didn't see any guys. I think this was around 6:00ish or so. It was right before I left actually. Michael you must have been arriving just as I was leaving. We must have just missed each other. Ah! It's like the perfect scenario for a British comedy lol!

same thing happened to me. I ended up sitting down with a group of strangers and making friends with them, which was fun but not quite the LGBTQ meetup I was expecting. I met Waneta and Janet, though, so it sort of counts. Next time let's designate a leader for the event and that person can designate a specific way to identify them, like "I'll be wearing a silly hat." Even in smaller venues (it's not like Gennas is huge) it's awkward to walk up to a group of strangers and say "are you the gay meetup group?"

I am so sad to hear this happened! Don't worry, this will not happen at the next meetup on 9/17. The location is quite small and I'll make sure everyone finds us:

    Hey all,

So I got there at about 5:30, and didn't see anyone. I asked one of the employees, but she had not seen the group. I even asked a waiter, but he too had not seen the group. I came back half an hour later, and still couldn't find the group, so I went home.

I have an idea: since a lot of us have yet to meet face to face, why doesn't someone make a sign for the group or something to help us find one another for the next meetup.

Something as simple as a rainbow flag on a stick would suffice, I think.

    Thoughts?

I agree with Michael. Stopped by but couldn't figure out which group of people might be this group. Maybe for future meetings like this, someone who gets there early can post where people are sitting.

If the Shamrock debacle goes on for too long, we should consider changing this event to a Genna's Happy Hour...just a few doors down and also very gay friendly. Plus, they have outdoor seating, which would be great on a late summer or early fall day.

I've never been to the Shamrock before; however I wouldn't mind going with a group of people. Keep me posted! Thanks.
