Close-enough-to-Halloween Night Hike - Barr Trail

Halloween's only seven months away.  Let's celebrate early with a hike followed by a campfire.  We did this before and it turned out great!

I've done this trail a bunch of times during the day, plus, the aforementioned night hike, so we shouldn't get TOO lost. As you've learned from Halloween movies, stick with the group. No going off on your own!

If you want to eat ahead of time with us, let's meet for Italian food at Cafe Panuzzos Italian Eatery at 5:30.  I'd especially recommend this to new members so you're not hiking in the dark with strangers.

Bring:
- A small flashlight
- Glostick, preferably as a necklace
- Bugspray (you can leave the sunscreen behind)
- Bottle of water
- Short sleeve work-out clothes. Things get much warmer once you start moving.
- A sweatshirt
- Maybe something to snack on
- If you can spare it, a few bucks to reimburse me for the firewood

For the post-campfire:

- $3 camping fee. Not sure if this technically counts as camping, but it's the nice thing to do, since we're using their grounds
- Smores and/or grillables
- A chair/blanket to sit on

We'll drop this off at a firepit toward the beginning, so no need to worry about dragging it with you the whole way. I'll bring a cooler full of ice that you're welcome to store your food in while we hike.

I thought getting lost was the best part! It was a fantastic idea and I'd love to do another nighttime walk in the future.

Sounds like a feast. Never had Filipino hotdogs (unless there're like regular hotdogs). Should be fun to try.

Oh, I'd like to come to the dinner but won't be eating (food allergies), is that ok? Sorry for asking last minute!

    March 23, 2014

    • Jesse

Should be fine I would think.

      March 23, 2014

    • Mike!

Yeah l, there'll be plenty of paying customers, so it should be no big deal.

      March 23, 2014

  • Mike!

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. All the details will be handled, just show up and have fun. That said, if whoever has a few extra bucks can chip in to help cover the firewood, glowsticks, and smores, that'd be awesome.

My babysitter cannot watch the girls tonight, so alas we are up the creek without a paddle. ;)

Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad I got to kayak with you and Omar. See yall at the next thingamabob.

Hey! This will be my first meetup with you guys and I'm excited, I need more hiking in my life! Also, I tend to get lost so expect a phone call from me, lol...

    March 22, 2014

    • Mike!

Welcome to the group, Gabby. A lot of us are directionally challenged, so feel free to call if you get lost. People at meetups are almost always welcoming, so don't worry about not knowing anyone.

New rule: if you drink (and if you do, keep it on the mum), you must sing.

What kind of terrain will the hike be on? (flat/steep/mixed)?

    March 9, 2014

    • Mike!

Hi, Alex. In typical Florida fashion, the trail will be mostly flat, but with a lot of roots. It will feel like we're hiking along the top of a small hill most of the way.

Any objections to bringing my dog?

    February 25, 2014

    • Mike!

Sorry, just saw this comment (I've really gotta email tech support about this). No objections to bringing your dog from here, particularly if they like smores.

I assume this is not baby-wearing friendly? Lol. How many miles is the hike?

    February 11, 2014

    • Mike!

The hike is a little over 2 miles each way. I suppose with a baby backpack you could do it.
