JDRF Annual Walk-For-The-Cure-5K FREE Event

Join us on Saturday, March 9th for the JDRF annual Walk-For-The-Cure-5K Event at UCF (Memory Mall)!

The walk revolves around a fun theme every year – This year the theme is “Mission Possible”... EVERYTHING at the event is FREE! Breakfast, Lunch and drinks are provided to everyone as a thank you, there will also be bounce houses, fun character meet-and-greets, Live music, Mix 105.1, parades, and lots of kiosks giving away free stuff!

I am the Team Captain for a Walk Team raising Money and Awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes research Foundation (JDRF)… did you read that right? “juvenile” as in little kids! JDRF is committed to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes and assisting families with children who have it.

My team is raffling off a 55” LED 1080p (240hz) HDTV… (isnt that awesome!) Ill be selling tickets at the walk which are only $5 or 5/$20… I hope someone from the YOAO meetup group wins it this year!!!

BE PART OF MY TEAM!!! If you’d like to pledge money towards my personal goal I’d really appreciate it! My personal goal is $250 and my team goal is $8,000… Please help us raise it – Just follow the link to donate!!!

How does JDRF help? JDRF is committed to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes and assisting families with children who do have it. As a not-for-profit organization, they are able to dedicate 82% of all funds to research and education – 82 cents per dollar - that’s HUGE!

What is Type 1 Diabetes? Type 1 is an autoimmune disease – basically the body’s immune system attacks and kills insulin-producing cells. Unlike Type 2 diabetes which can be reversed, Type 1 diabetes thus far is irreversible, resulting in regular injections of insulin.

Who does Type 1 diabetes target most? – Babies, Children, and Adolescents More than 3,000,000 Americans have Type 1 Diabetes – that’s a lot of zeros, huh? Even worse, each year more than 15,000 children are diagnosed – meaning each day 40 children are told they will have to stick themselves with a needle to survive – ouch!

Danielle, I just realized that this overlaps Curt's event, so I'd rather not have it on the official calendar.
