I'm flexible on dates and times, with the exception that I do travel some for work. I'm going to inquire if our first meeting could be at the Hive coffee shop in Oakland, and am leaning towards East Bay locations, but can be flexible on that, too.
This is a book group that's been meeting nearly once a month for about a year and a half. Our ongoing goal is to develop a group of members who are committed to the group, to reading and talking about the chosen books and to each other as friends. I have a thought that when we reach some sort of critical mass, we'll take this group away from Meetup and meet privately, but we're not there yet.
We meet at a Coffee Shop in Alameda, often on a Thursday evening because I travel for work and can usually be home by Thursday nights. Attendance averages about 6 members each time--so don't let the huge number of members scare you. We've never met most of them :) The discussions are pretty casual and open, although I usually have some questions lined up in case the conversation lags.
Our reading choices are chosen democratically--with members nominating books, and then I use the Meetup Polls function to create a list for voting. I tabulate the results and create the next few meetups with the most popular choices. We read mostly current fiction, but not always.
Who should join this group? People who love books and who are looking for book-loving friends. People who are willing to make a small commitment (after checking us out, of course) to the group and the books we choose.
