Films & Discussion: WELCOME TO THE FUTURE & Russell Brand's NEWSNIGHT Interview

After the film WELCOME TO THE FUTURE (Jacque Fresco)(58mins) The NEWSNIGHT interview J. Paxman/Russell Brand (11mins) will be shown, followed by a discussion. Both Paxman and Brand say: "the whole green-bench pantomime in Westminster is a remote and self-important echo-chamber". Brand wants a new Socialist system and Jacque Fresco advocates a Resource Based Economy to replace Capitalism.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE: even with it's primitive special effects, is considered by many to be an excellent presentation of The Venus Project.
The Venus Project is an organization that proposes a feasible plan of action for social change, one that works towards a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative to strive toward where human rights are no longer paper proclamations but a way of life.

Free Admission.

David Malone, under his alias Golem XIV, has just published a brilliant blog called We The People, very relevant to what we were discussing on Sunday.
    please read and share!

Lively discussion, mainly around Democracy & alternatives to voting. Seems better to run films as close to 7pm as possible, to allow time to network at the end.

oops I pressed send too early. None the less, I wonder if the group holds individual talks regarding the already mentioned; i.e voting system and the like. If so when the next voting discussion would take place is of great interest to me.

next Month's film night 'Culture in Decline' features "What is Democracy" and voting will certainly be discussed. Hope to see you there:)

Reactions were interesting - the film assumed all sorts of pre-existing ideal behaviours and a form of socialist inclusivity - a far way from usual US Capitalist standpoints. Some excellent points but now looking as though it needs an update. As to RB - he had some good points, OK one, else he seemed to be just a pain in the arse.
